the first matrix has a good closing line with a good closing song, but I don't know it well enough to quote it.

Here's the last line of the movie:

If you're curious and/or interested, here's the entire 4+ minute ending. (Gable's last line comes at 1:58)

I believe it was mentioned early in this thread, but in any case, your comment describes it perfectly. I definitely wouldn't consider it to be one of the greatest closing lines in history.

"It's Ensign Pulver and I just threw your stinking palm tree overboard ... Now what's all this crud about no movie tonight!

Mister Roberts. One of my all time favorites and the final 5 minutes always gets me weeping like a little girl.

Considering how many movies have terrible endings, saying that a closing line that closes the case without saying so isn't great is...uh...

It's one of the great caper movie endings...sorry.

Yes, when you consider the context of the scene and how it relates to the film as a whole the ending of the original Taking of Pelham 123 definitely way up there on the list.

I quite enjoy the ending to Frenzy for similar reasons.

Another Hitchcock that I can't believe hasn't been mentioned yet.

'Let them see what kind of a person I am, I'm not even going to swat that fly. I hope they are watching. They'll see and they'll know, and they'll say, 'why she wouldn't even harm a fly.' '

Really that entire ending monologue should be up there on the list, both just straight up and especially when you consider further context.

It was #1 on the list in the video posted in the OP.

Oops, just watched it, yes you're right.

Well I was partially correct though, it hasn't been mentioned since.

I guess I'm guilty of whatever the opposite of grunching is here. Reading all the replies but not the OP.

Heh.

What makes the ending great of TTOP123 is not the line, but Walter Matheau's "gotcha" look as he turns back into the apartment after Martin Balsn sneezes.

Dirty Harry:

Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan:

Uh uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?

A great listen of that classic Eastwood voice.

Starts at about :55 but the whole clip is enjoyable (one word NSFW).

Pretty sure those DH quotes aren't the closing lines to the movies...

I just watched the movie. It is the last line of Dirty Harry.

You know why he's called dirty? He gives the reason in the movie. It's because he always "gets the dirty jobs."
