Boulevard isn't available down here. But I'd swap some Cigar City, St. Somewhere or Dunedin for some Boulevard and/or Three Kings...

Thanks for the tip, added to the list. Im going on Saturday with a friend to a joint in NJ with a gigantic selection.

My buddy knows quite a bit more then me so it should be a good help, working in a Belgian beer bar in Philly for 4 years he damn well should though.

I now have 3 taps in my kegerator so need to get more beer in there ... would anyone be willing to look at this list and make a recommendation? I'm not familiar with most of the brands ... would be looking for something along the lines of either a Strong English Ale or Oatmeal Stout

Re: TLDR Beer Club

silkyslim,

Too funny, exactly how my gf would react to a IIPA. Although by now I've foisted enough on her she wouldn't take a drink after smelling it.

rapidacid,

That list is a list of breweries, not beers. Can they get any brand that any of those breweries brew?

Is there an internet acronym / expression for "I'm not trying to be a dick or say this in a smarmy way, but, I know" ...

I've had no problem ordering any non seasonal from them in the past

Wolaver's makes a decent Oatmeal Stout which I know comes in kegs, as does Bluepoint.

Can you be more specific as to what you're looking for in your English Ale?

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I'm waiting back for a quote on a Blue Point Oatmeal Stout keg ... glad to see it recommended here ... I've had the Wolavers in bottles and it's a little underwhelming for me

A good English Strong Ale for me is 6%+, very crisp yet malty, little to no head ... I like to drink them very, very cold ... think Lake Placid Ubu Ale if you've ever had it ... caramel & coffee tones are a plus

they're not exactly oatmeal stouts and also very high ABV, but I'm a big fan of Victory Storm King Stout, and Southern Tier's Mokah Stout.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I picked up an Avery variety pack, I rea din here once or twice it was a solid brewery so figured a variety pack was the way to go.

I tried the IPA last night, it was decent, very smooth but not as hoppy as most IPAs. B-

I also had the Redpoint Ale last night, I enjoyed it quite a bit, so far was my favorite of the 2. More brown then Red, more of a copperish color, could taste some caramel in there, gave it a nice flavor. B+

2 down and I am quite pleased.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Had a bottle of Upright Brewing, "Gose". Which is a wheat made with coriander and sea salt.

I really enjoyed it. The salt is only slightly noticeable in the long finish. The after (after) taste is almost like the feeling you have when you've been eating some salty nuts. If you taste it, you'll know what i mean.

BTW, thats 3/3 for me on Upright Brewing. I've had two of their Saison's, the #4 (a hoppy Saison) and, Flora Rustica (Saison w/ some sort of flower added to it - absolutely outstanding). Great stuff.

I haven't made it out there for the last two years.

Do you want to trade a bottle or two of your '10 darklord for '08 darklord by chance?

I'm headed up to the taste of midwest ticket thing tonight. A friend who isn't even into beer all that much called me very excited about going to this and I couldn't refuse the crazy way you have to get tickets. At least that's what I'm telling myself...

Ya sure I'll trade a bottle or two. how do you want to meet up?

incidentally I purchased a sixer of Stone brewery Ruination IPA. Intense hops.
some people came into the apartment and asked where the weed was at.

I always felt Stone Pale Ale is great but a touch too mild. Similarly, I love their IPA, but it's just tiny bit too hoppy for my everyday drinking tastes. I resolved this dilemma by mixing the two 50/50 and the result is one of the best-tasting beverages in America.

I'm also very fond of Ruination, and I recently had a session of mixing it with both the Pale Ale and IPA. I didn't find any combination to be much better or worse than any other. They were all mighty tasty. I suggest giving it a shot yourself.

pretty much this, used to be my standard tipple in my local in my first year at uni before i moved and my local then became somewhere with continual guest beers. it's a solid enough ipa (although occasionally variable) but it's common enough that it's not something to go nuts about.

Finally got around to trying the White Rascal and the Out Of Bounds Stout.

The White Rascal was kind of a dissapointment to me actually. It seemed be almost overly carbonated and lacking taste. It has a decent citrisy nose but the flavor kind of dissipates and has virtually not after taste. C-

The Out Of Bounds Stout was very good imo, had a creamy, coffee, slightly chocolaty. Quite enjoyable.... B+

Oh, and Id like to change my Avery Redpoint Ale grade to an A- that **** is goooood.

I love when newer people (usually stoners) ask about the weed.

This one guy at FFF one time kept calling the Dreadnaught "that weed beer."

I'm up on the north side of Chicago, near Lincoln Square/Ravenswood/Albany Park border.

About halfway between Kedzie and California on Lawrence.

If you plan on going to any of the city breweries or brewpubs, we can meet there, or if you're in the area.

Worst case (for me), I can go up north to you. PM me if you have something in mind, I'll be in town all month I believe.
