Man I've been wanting to try that beer forever. It's talked about A LOT in the homebrew forums. Maybe I'll have to try out one of the clone recipes soon.

I'm not that good either, but is there anything better than sipping a good beer and jamming on the guitar?

im working on uploading some pics from my trip to belgium right now. i went to the cantillon brewery in brussels and de halve mann in bruges.

i tried alot of diffferent beers during my trip there. a few of my favorites were duvel, delirium tremens, chimay white label.

i tried the gueze style from the cantillon brewery as my free sample. very interesting taste and unlike anything i have ever had before. i wouldnt likely order it again but it was cool to see a brewery sticking to the old style of brewing.

Tonight's review is Russian River's Consecration. This is a mighty 10% ABV beer that's apparently barrel aged with currants and reconditioned in the bottle. I'm not sure what else this beer will be like.

The beer pours a dark brown, slightly cloudy with a coarse head that dissipates quickly.

The aroma is definitely fruity with the currant, but I can't decipher the rest. Huh. This is odd, and not what I was expecting at all. It's very sour, and now that I take a closer look at the label, I see what I was tasting and smelling that I couldn't make out but that seemed familiar: it was aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. It tastes of wine. I'm not sure I dig it. Yeah, I think the beer gets the job done as far as getting me drunk, but the sour wine flavor is not working for me. It tastes kinda like spoiled wine. I mean, it's better than that, but the hint of that doesn't do this beer any favors.

Don't know where you all are from, but I like to take a run up to Concord, CA sometimes and stop by The Monument liquor store... only about 800 or so selections of craft brew. The place is sick! Stopping by next Monday and going for a pick up!

Last trip picked up PlinyTheElder, some Port Brewing IPA's, DFH, The Lost Abbey "Lost and Found Abbey Ale".... I need more Belgians and more IPAs!

Are you thinking of something for with dinner? You might try good ol' Brooklyn Brown. It's a solid step up from Newcastle without being too heavy, and I think a malty brown would go better with the rich sweet foods of thanksgiving more than a hop bomb. If you're looking for something before dinner (doubt you'd feel like beer after dinner), just drink any beer you like (or a beer reviewed ITT that sounds appealing).

I definitely think a brown ale is the way to go.

I third a nice brown, and feel a bottle of La Fin Du Monde would be fitting for desert.

Every time I drink it I think, "why is this so damn good?", and yeah, I'm not good at all but enjoy playing what I can, and attempting to learn. Doesn't get much better than good beer + jam session. Because I suck at the guitar, I always make sure to suck in style with a good beer in hand.

Yeah, can't go wrong with an American Brown. If your food, or palate I guess, is a bit more delicate an Amber would match up nicely with a lot of the stuff too. Wookie, what would you think about a dubbel with Thanksgiving?

An interesting and adventurous pick, but I can dig it. It probably would have paired especially nicely with the pre-Thanksgiving party I threw with my friends last weekend. There, we had a slightly sweet gravy and stuffing which could make a dubbel an even better match than an American brown, in addition to one being a natural compliment to candied yams and cranberry sauce.

At last, the day came. I've submitted my first paper last night. It was time to celebrate, and what better way to celebrate than with one of the finest beers in the world. The Dark Lord, from Three Floyds, is currently #11 on the Beer Advocate list of top beers in the world. It's extremely hard to find, and I graciously had a bottle shipped to me by Chicago Ry.



The beer manages to have a head despite the extremely high alcohol contenst (13% ABV). The head doesn't hang out long, though. It is, of course, jet black.



The aroma is mostly hazelnut and coffee with a hint of vanilla. The flavor is very toasty. The taste of very darkly toasted bread is much more prominent in this beer than in most imperial stouts I've had. It has a decent floral hop character to it, too. It doesn't taste as dry and strongly hopped as, say, Victory's Storm King, but in a beer this heavy, much heavier and thicker than the aforementioned Storm King, it's hard for hops to dominate. As the beer warms up, I get a little more chocolate and fig along with a mild dark cherry flavor in the sweetness. Thankfully, that cherry is not of cough syrup. It's hard to objectively say that this was the best imperial stout I've ever had. I briefly considered using this at my double-blind imperial stout taste test, but then I was like, **** that, I'm drinking this myself. Anyway, this is an excellent, excellent beer. Easy .

I've always had a fear of dropping beer. So far it's only happened once, and it was a 4-pack of 16 oz Surly cans. THANKFULLY the aluminum just dented, and nothing burst.

I couldn't imagine doing it to a $12 bottle of Darklord, or w/e it costs.

I've had the Fuller's on tap and it's definitely good, can't wait to review it though.

I've yet to try this (or any) St. Peter's beers.

The St. Peter's stuff always scare me off just because of the (glass) packaging.
