I absolutely live Bailey's. Everytime I've gone to Portland, I've gone to Bailey's multiple times

Awesome TR. pdx Looks fantastic.
That parabola bottle shop pic makes me sick, I drove to two local shops on the release day this week and still couldn't score 1 bottle. You guys should appreciate your good beer centric areas with nice availability.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I went to visit my cousin to meet his newborn daughter and as soon as we got there he said "Oh, I have a surprise for you" he reaches into the fridge and chucks a can of Heady Topper across the room. Dont mind if I do...

Ive said this before, but Heady really kicks Pliny the Elders ass. I had Pliny just last week and then Heady again last night and for me its all Heady everyday.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

On my way to Funky Buddha's grand opening this weekend. Really excited for them to open a production facility and distribute their crazy beers. Special beers on tap:

Nib Smuggler Chocolate Porter
Last Snow Coffee Porter
No Crusts Peanut Butter & Jelly Brown Ale
Bonita Applebum Apple Pie Ale
Blueberry Cobbler Ale
Passionfruit Berlinerweiss
Dry-hopped Session Berlinerweiss

I've had No Crusts and Bonita Applebum before and they taste exactly like blended apple pie/PB&J. I'll try to get some pics and a TR

Re: TLDR Beer Club

So which one of those would you go to a bar and order four of?

What's a session berlinerweiss? They're not making a non-session that's like 8% abv are they?

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Last Snow is one I could actually drink a few pints of. The others are gimmicky, but really good gimmicks, I can't believe how they nailed the flavors. No idea what a session Berliner is considering Berliners should be session able to begin with. They also have some flagships, an IPA, hefe, porter (my fav) and a brown.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Today is the start of Philly Beer Week, I know alot of cities have beer weeks now but ours was the first and still kills it. Breweries seem to know it to, why else would Funky Buddha haul ass up here with beer after just opening their new spot?

Sorry if that sounds pompous but its an amazing week (10 days).

Here is my local bars tap list for the week, its killer.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

One of the coolest things is every year a Belgian brewery brews a collaboration beer with qa local Philly brewery every year exclusively for beer week. Last Year Dupont brewed a very unique smokey Saison, this year its De La Senne tagging up with Weyerbacher to brew a Dubbel called Manneken Penn...and look how cool the label is.

There is a big hammer called the Hammer of Glory that is paraded all around Philly all day today, stopping at bars on the way where one offs are tapped and poured for free. Its amazing bc there are busses and trolleys filled with people following the HOG on the tour. Every year when this starts there is just a buzz all around the city, its pretty amazing.

On Wednesday Tomme Arthur and Yvan de Baets will be at my local joint sharing aged bottles and talking with all the folks. Cant miss something like that.

Take a look at this list.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

+1 on Portland. Last time I was there we were 2 days behind on the tail end of a week long beer trip from SD to Portland and I only had time to see that Hair of the Dog was not open, though Rogue and Deschutes were fun.

Planning on Seattle and Portland later this year.

Just got my new brewing stand. Need to figure out a false bottom setup, and a few bits and pieces, hoping to break this baby in soon!

Thanks.

Electric start, but propane powered. Bought two of these - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W8JNLC

I might end up adding a burner to the mash tun, but in my previous experience keeping temp with a jacket and lid and a few stirs hasn't been a huge issue. I might change my mind before winter though.

I got lucky on the bottom drain. Uncle converted the pots for me before I moved and I gave him regular instructions for a side drain being as low as possible and he just ended up doing it this way. Now that I read more into it, I'm lucky he did that, bottom drains seem to rock overall.

This baby is on wheels too.

If you saw my first setup (left in Chicago at my brew partner's house), you'd see how many mistakes I learned from, lol.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I moved recently and so have a whole new market of beers on the shelves. Found a fresh sixer of Sculpin IPA and scooped it up. Really nice beer, big Simcoe and (Columbus I think?) nose to it, great bitterness, dry finish. Lives up to the good things I've heard about it.

Can anyone direct me to a beer that tastes like an Oatmeal Creme Pie (if such a thing exists)? Seems like it would be pure heaven.

Hmm, Ive never seen any bottom drain keggles that were propane fired. Are you sure its ok to hit those connections with a flame?

Anybody been to Birreria in NYC? Fermenting an experiment of thyme pale ale right now (inspired by one of their beers).

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I seem to remember there being some traders in here...

anyways I was just able to pick up some Cantillons, and am interested in trading them for cellarable Stouts or Strong Ales. Can anyone give me ideas for some rare/amazing beers I should be on the lookout to acquire - and what fair value may be

For instance

Hunahpu's Imperial Stout
Westvleteran 12
Dark Lord (any year)
Founders KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) - I think this is a lot less rare

would any of these be fair trades for the Cantillon?

any ideas for things I should be on the lookout for?

Re: TLDR Beer Club

kbz, pm me what cantillons you have (granted, I'll take what I can get) and I'll let you know what I have

I will say, it depends on what cantillon you have. Something like Lou Pepe Kriek would fetch you something bigger. Something like the regular Gueuze would be more like something very good, but not on Dark Lord levels
