Its a shame you didnt enjoy Heady Topper as much as some people, I agree its hard for some beers to live up to the reputation but this one did for me. Still, IMO, the best beer in the world. One thing though, is that I have never had it on tap, only in the can so I wonder if there is some difference there.
Oh, here's the full list of beers:

Don't get me wrong, Heady Topper is a great beer. As the fest was winding down, we even went back for last call and had a second pour. I guess I'm just opposed to the element of secrecy since that's such a rare thing in an industry that's usually so open about things like ingredients, process, etc. It's working for them, but it just seems a little douchey to me.

John Kimmich was there pouring beer (out of cans) and every time I heard someone ask him a question he just had this wry smirk on his face that betrayed his enjoyment of holding back information from people who are thirsty for that knowledge. That was enough to reaffirm my skepticism about their whole philosophy.

Granted I don't run a business on which my livelihood depends, so maybe I don't fully understand all the ramifications. I also don't make the greatest beer in the world.

Oh funny story about Rhizing Bines, too. A couple weeks ago I was at the bottle shop and had a bottle of that in one hand, and in the other Stone's Enjoy By IPA. So happy with my choice. Best thing I've had from Stone in a long time. So fresh-tasting (that's the idea, right?), super-dank and fruity. Great beer.

Yea I go back and forth on this actually, on one hand I think wtf share info its not like we are going to be able to clone it perfectly anyway.

On the other hand they got leveled by hurricane Irene a few years ago and lost their entire brewpub and lost the space to brew any other beers. So he is riding Heady back to where they were a few years ago with a full lineup.

I also think he is aware of the HBT thread trying to clone the beer and could be playing it up even more, especially since people in that thread talked to him a while back and he was much more forthcoming.

Seems strange as John was very helpful when I asked him a few very specific questions via email about a couple of beers that used to be available in the pub. (Farmer's Daughter saison and a sour cherry thing of which I forget the name.)

He even asked me to send him a couple of bottles when I get around to brewing them.

I'm sure he's a great guy, I just got a bad first impression. Now I feel bad for speaking ill of him. It sounds pretty hypocritical of be to be all "brewer's code!" when maybe I'm the *******.

I have so much bud and miller lite left in my fridge from st Patrick's day that I am going to have to go on sabbatical from craft goodness for a little bit. My stomach hurts already

If they are bottles you can open them, shove a few whole cone hops in there, recap, and let them sit for a week... Boom, craft beer.

Chester, use them to boil hot dogs or brats. Granted, it is sometimes worth having macros to appreciate the good stuff

Nothing wrong with a Bud in the right circumstances. St. Patty's Day, depending on how long you're planning on celebrating, is one of them.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Had three buds last night, not the worst thing in the world.

I'm going to at least drink the buds. A store around the corner from me just started getting tilquin geuze and some other improvements to the shelves so this drinking will offset that drinking cost wise.

Plus I spend so much $$ going out to get drinks too that cheap house beers might be a novel idea

Chester, I forget if you're a homebrewer but if you really don't want to drink them and have some hops lying around you can do this: Dry hop tests with Bud Light

It was talked about on the Brewing Network that guys at Anchor Brewing (I think?) test their new hops by opening a bud light, throwing a few pellets of a hop in, then re-capping for a few days. The non-flavor of BL helps the hops shine.

I saw that linked elsewhere and checked it out, but I just got around to checking the rest of the blog. That dude is a monster, brews all the time. I'd had the same thoughts about Pliny as he had - too much crystal in that recipe floating around - and I'll go more his direction the next time I brew that up.

Somebody hacked into my old one and used it to scam someone out of a couple grand. It's policy that compromised accounts get the banhammer.

Not a brewer but interested in all things beer. Think I'm gonna just drink the beer and save some cash for a week or two.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

The freezer is overflowing. Looking to find a recipe to use the 1/2 lb. of Mosaic hops I ordered. Anybody brewed with this hop? I'm thinking about maybe a hoppy American wheat, or just a simple pale ale to try out/showcase the Mosaic.

Don't know where you live, but Terrapin's current Side Project is a Mosaic beer. New Belgium's Rampant supposedly uses it as well.

The descriptors say it has distinct blueberry, and that definitely comes through in the Terrapin.

Thoughts on this? Had it the other weekend, tasted like a ****ing maple bar. BA is harsh on it, but it honestly wasn't so bad.

I really didn't like the Voodoo doughnut. It had a medicinal, artificial flavoring to it. Couldn't even give it away fast enough.

Upstate NY. Heard about the Terrapin in a HBT thread too. Did you enjoy it?

Yeah after the first bottle, I wasn't willing to go for another. For the price, it's way overvalued. I didn't get that artificial flavoring that you got though.
