Already dried 'em, it's about a third of an oz. I moved not too long ago and am too busy doing things like laying tile to brew, unfortunately.

so after two months of trying craft/Belgian/German beers - i'd guess i've tried probably 40-50 different beers in that time - my tastes have changed dramatically.

i started off hating IPAs and stouts, and now they are among my favorite - the Old Rasputin i had on draft this week was so damn good and so was the Hop Rod Rye i tried. i remember two months ago how much i loved quads and now i find them a little bit too sweet. and etc.

i think i'm going to tone it down this month before i become an alcoholic

The Hop Rod Rye is a fantastic beer.

Ended up doing a double batch of octoberfest this weekend with my friend. Our grain bail and process was identical but we changed the hop variety and yeast variety.

5lb Vienna
3lb Munich (5.5SRM)
and 2.5lb Pilsner 2row

My recipe included .5oz Columbus for 60min and Wyeast 2633 Oktoberfest Blend and his included .75oz Palisade 60min and Wyeast 2206 Bavarian Lager. They are both lagering atm in my fridge at home (hopefully around 54F wasn't really sure of the exact temperature due to opening/closing for beers all day). The recipe we followed was World's Best Oktoberfest and we chose it mainly due to the amazing results pictures.

I really like the Hop Rod Rye as well. Very delicious and spicy. Don't know if I can call it better than the Racer 5 though.

figured some reviews need to be posted. If anyone comes to chicago, Revolution in Logan Sq is a place that they need to visit. They've only been around for about a year and a half but have really done a good job with their beers. Today was a drinking lunch, so I had some smaller pours and went through a bunch of their beers:


Workingman's Mild (3.5%):

pours a nice light mahogany color

good nose with tones of grains, malts, and bits of toffee. Nose is solid and pretty straight forward

lighter feel that is nice and pleasant with some caramel and toffee with some malts as well

this is a session nice beer. Some good tones but they are lacking some depth

B-: 3.28

Working Woman's Brown (6%)-

this poured a good solid brown color.

darker nose but not on the big and rich side. Balanced and aromatic with tones of caramel, malts, and chocolate tones

medium bodied with a good feel, but the tones aren't as deep as they are on the nose. The flavor that dominates is mostly caramel with some malt tones as well

this is a quality brown ale. Balanced and easy drinking that is enjoyable with a good caramel finish

B: 3.75

Anti-Hero IPA (6.5%)-


pours a nice light golden color with a small and foamy head

fresh and aromatic nose with various citrus tones, papaya, hops, and fresh picked oranges.

medium/full bodied with a good amount of hop tones but they aren't overbearing at all

a real quality ipa. This isn't an IPA that runs away with the hops and instead is nice and fresh while being slighter bigger

B+: 3.95

Oktoberfest Revolution (6.3%)-

this pours a nice dark orange color

very good aromas with malts, grains, and blood oranges. fairly straightforward, but balanced and aromatic

medium bodied with a good plumpness to the feel. Smooth and round as well with good malty flavors dominating

this is a good and solid oktoberfest. While there are grain tones to it, they don't dominate and instead we get some malty goodness

B: 3.53

Diggity Dunkel (6.1)-

had this from tap. Pours a nice dark red color with about a 1in head.

malt based nose with tones of grains and spice tones. While its not the most complex nose, it works well

medium bodied with more of a pronounced spice flavor with good depth and a real good feel to back it up

a good dunkel. well balanced with a nice malty side to it.

B+: 3.78

Pablo Picasso (9%-belgian strong ale)-

had this on tap and it poured a rich dark black color.

Rich nose that had some port-qualities to it along with some caramel and sour black cherries. A bit boozy on the nose though

full bodied and rich as well. Better flavors with dark chocolate, black cherries and caramel. There was also a port-ish style to it on the feel with a good finish

This doesn't show the booze on the feel where it does a bit on the nose. This is a bit of a bruiser and it would be great if they bottled this in 22oz format

B+: 4

Hop Princess (5.2%-red ale)-

pours a nice orange/gold color with a small head.

more subdued nose with citrus', hops, and some grainy tones as well. Not all that deep and was expecting more from the hops as they didn't completely show themselves

medium feel that holds itself well with more grain flavors than I was expecting along with some citrus tones as well. Solid feel to it as it is complete

this is a good beer, but definitely not one of their best offerings. A bit of a conflicted beer but still solid

Very good west coats IPA, I love the difference between west and east coast IPAs.

Very good bottle, The 15yr seemes to appease more peoples pallets though. Long time ago I used to bartend a very high class restaurant and the 15yr went like hotcakes, 18yr collected dust. Just my 2cents

good luck with that deezy. I may not be able to get a bottle as my store's allo was only 4 btls and we thought we were gonna get a case of 12 (this happened across our entire chain). Basically founders spread the allocations wider (read much thinner) this time around but kept the same amount of production

I had a Berkshire Brewing Company Sour Ale tonight. It was delicious.

It had a very complex flavour, and was extremely satisfying.

pours a good dark mahogany color with a smaller head that disappears fast.

Very good and aromatic nose of sour red cherries, red apples, and some grape tones

medium bodied with the deeper tones for the flavors. Excellent feel with a nice tart bite to it

A real quality flemish sour. Very good aromatics with even better flavors. Excellent feel and a real good beer overall

i cant recall ever seeing 6 or 12 packs of anything by berkshire.

The Punkin ale is great, and most people will say thats the best Pumpkin ale out there. But there are a few others worth trying imo...

1. Post Road Pumkin Ale -Brooklyn Brewery
2. Pumking - Southern Tier


Not in any particular order but those 3 are my favorite, watch out though that Pumking is a big beer. Oh and drink these beer young, especially the Pumking it does not age well. I learned that the hard way...
