Re: TLDR Beer Club

It meets the hype, but not how you might expect. I was expecting something bolder, but what it lacked in boldness it made up for in balance and finish. It stays on your tongue for an eternity, and the hops, sweetness, and complexity all meld into something not cloying, not a hop bomb, and not a spice pizazz, but a complete, balanced, drinkable beer. It definitely isn't as sweet and fruity as many American quads. It's much hoppier than I expected, but not so much as to leave me thinking its a Stone product. Just something softer, rounded, and to be sipped very slowly.

I will keep my KBS. And my $1,000 airplane ticket! Jealous though.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I had my KBS last night and also managed to get another one by sending my wife in to the store...

Anyway, I really liked it but it is still not my favorite stout. I'm not sure anything will ever beat Old Rasputin for me.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I had a Weihenstephan Weissbier yesterday from the bottle because I was at my girlfriends Dad's house and to my surprise, it was absolutely delicious. It was one of the best Hefeweizen beers I've ever had.

I've never heard about this beer and didn't know it supposedly comes from the oldest brewery in the world. 1040.

Wow, almost 1000 years old.

I would definitely give it at 4.5/5 or a 5/5.

It's pretty much the standard for the style that all others should be judged at in my opinion, such a good beer. (I also had one yesterday, but I've had them many times before )

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Hi all,

I just finished reading every page of this thread. I am new to drinking microbrews and have started a quest to drink 1,000 of them in the next 2 years. I hit 20 yesterday lol.

I would like to thank everyone for all the info in this thread. I went to my beer place and picked up some of the recommended beers in here. i am pretty much sticking to IPAs and APAs because i hadn't stepped much past Stella until now.

Looking forward to posting some reviews in here if anyone is interested. (Even though i don't really know what i'm doing!)

Re: TLDR Beer Club

If you are serious about hitting 1000 in 2 years (which will be extremely tough) then you should make a website/blog that you give reviews on. It would be easier to categorize and a lot less clogged up than in here.

GL!

Re: TLDR Beer Club

definitely not planning on reviewing them all on here. just the ones that stand out as really good or really bad.

I've just been taking pictures and posting them to my facebook and writing a one or two line review. I may start a blog but i'm not big on blogging.

Thanks for the GL, I'm going to need it!

Anyone here try Three Floyds Gumballhead?

I've got a pound of Amirillo hops and access to good red wheat malt so thinking of brewing a clone, but I've never tried it and can't get it in the Northeast as far as I can tell.

I found this one to be pretty strong. Had a bit of an alcohol burn. ( I assume the bourbon )

But, liked it very much and would buy again. It was a slow sipping brew for me.

I've found Allagash to consistently make some great beers every time I've tried something new, I'll have to look out for it.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

xpost:

pick 3 or 4 beers for a 200 person wedding. I am thinking

Sam Light (crowd pleaser, lowest common denominater and also a Light beer option)
Brooklyn Lager (in case someone asks for Bud/lager type beer)
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (hoppier choice)

I need to blend cost considerations with picking crowd pleasers while also picking stuff that beer fans will appreciate and enjoy

thoughts?

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Brooklyn Lager is pretty hoppy, imo. I'd pick either it or SNPA, and then a darker option. The people going for Bud will probably be more OK with Sam Light than Brooklyn. Where are you located again? I guess if you can get Brooklyn, I'd look into getting their Brown instead of their Lager. That would get you a much more rounded selection for about the same price.

hmm yes good points. wedding is near Albany, NY. most beers should be in play, but I'm not looking for anything super fancy due to cost, etc.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Yeah, I'd look to replace either the SNPA or the Brooklyn Lager with the Brooklyn Brown, or perhaps something darker still, whichever of the first two you personally like less. Plenty of people hate darker beer, sure, but plenty of other people go for darker beer exclusively.

Boulevard pulled out of TN not too long ago, as well. TN has the highest beer taxes in the nation, so its usually the first to get cut when operations are scaling back.

Alternatively, you could go Miller light to please that crowd, Sam Adams, and something darker (I'm not familiar with Brooklyn Breweries beer), but I think something darker should probably be in play.
