Do you have a list of what is easily available to you?

You probably want to go to a few stores that have kegs and see what beer they have available.

Some stores if they don't have it in stock might be able to get you certain kinds if you can wait a few days.

The best bet is to ask them if they have any knowledge when your unsure what kind of beers are the kind you are looking for then come back here with those so the people can tell you more about them. The store might give you some good suggestions and some completely wrong for what your wanting which some people here probably can tell you better based on the list available.

It would also help if we knew where on Earth you live.

Not sure if its been posted yet or not (most probably has) but one of my favourite non conventional beers has to be fruli. It is a strawberry beer made with real strawberrys I believe! It can be found in a good amount of UK bars/pubs and also in Tesco. Anyone else tryed it/share me views?

Sorry meant to post that I live in So. California. I guess I was just looking for a big list of possible "beers" to look at. Then, I can cross reference that with stuff that is available from the couple of suppliers I use. If it's available, I could find a couple bottles for her to taste.

Like you said, it seems that she likes sweeter or fruitier drinks. Ciders certainly fall under that definition, but there's such a wide variety that she could like some but not others. If you could tell us more about what she for sure doesn't like, that would help.

Beers that you could try out include German Hefeweizens, like Weihenstephaner or Spaten. German hefs have a fruity aroma and flavor with very low bitterness, usually aromas of bananas and sometimes bubblegum. Some Belgian beers also have those fruity/bubblegum aromas, like Orval. Belgian wits are often less fruity but more subtly spicy, with coriander and orange flavor and aroma. Hoegaarden is a good place to start. Both the German hefs and Belgian wits are low ABV, easy-drinking places to start. If she has a real sweet tooth, you could also jump in the complete opposite direction and go with a big, sweet stout. Southern Tier makes a Creme Brulee Stout that I've never tried but supposedly tastes like creme brulee in a glass. Sounds overly sweet to me, but palates differ. Lots of those high ABV stouts also finish fairly sweet, so its another route to try.

There are also tons of fruit beers out there to try - Sweetwater's Blue, a blueberry beer, comes to mind - but without more info on what you can get and what she hates as well as likes, its hard to get more specific. The great thing is that beers come in such a variety of flavors, aromas, mouthfeels, colors, etc, that I'm sure you can find something you'll both like.

I appreciate the responses. I'm probably just going to pick out 3-4 and do some taste tests. The Creme Brulee beer sounds up her alley perhaps.

She's into really sweet. Hefs won't cut it. She'll drink something like Sunshine Wheat or Sunset Wheat, but it's not good enough for her on tap. If you've ever tried Framboise, you'll understand. It tastes delicious, but I can't have more than about 8 oz before it's too sweet. Then, it's further complicated by what I can get from local distributors in a 5 gallon keg.

It's not like I haven't made her try a dozen hefs, saisons, or fruit beers, but most of them just don't cut it. It's a woman after all

Half Hoegaarden (or any other White Ale really) and half the Framboise.

That might be the opposite for someone who likes em super sweet, but my lady enjoys that drink every so often.

Managed to get my hands on the Dogfishhead 90 mins earlier today. Not cheap at £4.50/bottle, but have heard good reports so let's have a go. Such a huge hoppy nature, can smell it a mile off, but wasn't reflected in the taste at all. Pretty nice beer, not sure that it was worth the price I paid but would certainly have it again.

yeah. quite a solid beer, but somewhat sweeter than something like kriek or framboise which i prefer to it.

Has anyone picked up The Abyss by Deschutes Brewery? I got two bottles, and will be drinking one soon. The other I'll cellar for a year. It actually has a "best after" date on it.

Tried a Brother Theloniuous the other day. Pretty decent. I enjoyed it. Its by the north coast brew co, they do old rasputin

I actually had an Old Rasputin the other night. Hell of a beer! Maybe I'll try the Monk.

Everything North Coast makes is good, imo. On the lighter side, their ACME IPA is definitely worth a try.

I had an Anderson Valley IPA (or called something like that) the other day; was v good. Strong 4/5, I'll be getting it again.

And Old Rasputin gets a regular rotation in my fridge; it's what I judge all other Imp porters by...gotta have a couple to make a comparison ya know

I've also had a few Flying Dog double IPA's recently. It's like a barley wine Kinda strong at first but I've got used to them. prolly a good 4/5 also, for me.

Just had some of this blueberry stout i made. Wish you guys could try it, i think its my best so far.

Also, that beer looks nice in the fridge, but i think the brisket ( i think its brisket) looks better. U smoking that beauty?

I liked their Raging Bitch IPA a lot. I don't remember how I felt about the Snake IPA.

I've never been into Porters very much but I really liked the Old Rasputin Imperial Porter.

What else can you recommend that tastes something like that?

We should do some homebrew trading and post tasting notes itt, no?

I opened my porter last week, bought a bottle of Sam Smith's Taddy Porter to have alongside it for comparison purposes, and I have to say I think we nailed it. My first drink of my made me think it had too much of an alcoholic finish on the first taste, but Sam's did too.
