I'm pretty sure they don't bottle Pliny the Younger. Think it's only available seasonally on tap at the brewery. (Edit: I've heard that they send some to certain markets, but it isn't bottled.)

The Elder is fantastic, though. I can't imagine the Younger being better, but people say that it is.

I believe the only East Coast location you can get it is Philly on tap; someone that way can correct me if I am wrong.

And yeah, Younger is never bottled and only released once a year. It's theoretically possible to be able to get a growler of the stuff in a trade, but it sure ain't easy as they limit the growlers sold. I also think a keg or two of it goes to Philly during the release (end of summer I think?), but once again, I haven't actually been there myself, so I may be misinformed.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I've always had PtY in growlers. I thought it was more widely available on the east coast, not sure why I thought that.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Memphis Taproom, Monks, and Eulogy all in Philadelphia get kegs of it from time to time. I always just miss it, its maddening. My friend bartends at Eulogy and tips me off when something good comes in, I told him I need to be notified when it gets in.

According to Philly Tap Finder, they currently have it at the recently renovated Khyber Pass Pub.

It lives up to the hype. The store would only let me buy one bottle at a time, they got 2 cases of it. I have gone back everyday, and bought another bottle, until they ran out last night . I would order it.

I am *this close* to starting all grain this winter.

*This close.*

Winter here is the perfect opportunity to brew outside. I just need to figure out what I need to make the leap. I guess a mash tun.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

I did some digging after posting in this thread, and the news isn't good. No more growlers of PtY will be sold. They will only sell it in 10oz glasses at the brewery, release is in February. It will also go to Philadelphia.

I am in Santa Rosa at least 3-4 times a year and will be going through on or about the 22nd of this month. I'd be happy to ship as long as it is legal to do so to your state/country, will take payment on Stars, Tilt or Carbon.

I plan on making the switch in the spring. I have been pricing things out the last few weeks, I just aquired a Sanke Keg that I plan on converting into my boil kettle and bought a 42qt cooler to convert to a mash tun all for ~$100 not bad. I cant wait to put it to use.

but for now, winter extract brewing still...

Cooked this one up about 6 weeks ago, put them in the fridge Friday, and they were fantastic.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Finally cracked my Bottle of Sierra Nevada's 30th anniversary beer, "Brewer's Reserve." The last of the four in the series, its a blend of oak-aged Bigfoot Barleywine, Celebration IPA, and Sierra's pale.

Pretty good, another tasty offering. It poured a deep, deep amber/brown. The barleywine dominated a bit with it's malt flavors and I could taste the oak coming though, but it was definitely assertively hopped, and I chalked that up to the Celebration. I thought about opening a Celebration to go alongside and see if I could pick it out, but at 9.2% and drinking alone, I decided that 750 of Brewer's Reserve was about all I should have.

It was the same price as the others in the series, something around $10, and while it wasn't my favorite of the four - I think that honor goes to the stout - it was still a good beer and worth the price.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Wow I never knew this thread existed. I just started brewing in August and so far have brewed an extract kolsch which I now have on tap, and then an all grain altbier which is currently cold conditioning.

Two weekends ago I attempted an all grain california common (aka steam) but I screwed something up and my extraction efficiency was way off. That combined with a massive boilover and I decided to dump the batch rather than end up with a low volume of super week beer. I crashed the starter so hopefully get a chance soon to give it another shot.

Anyway glad to have found the thread and will slowly read my way through it.

Re: TLDR Beer Club

Anyone have leads these days on how to get Pliny The Elder on the East Coast? I looked pretty hard about a year ago but all places were constantly sold out ( meaning online ordering places ).

Price is not an issue. Would definitely do a West Coast / East Coast swap with someone if they wanted.

Maybe we should start a new homebrewing thread? It seems there is enough of a split here that it might be worthwhile?

It's been brought up several times. I'm fine with it either way. Keeping them combined keeps the thread moving, but I don't know if regular beer buyers give a **** about reading about home brewing.

Anyway, the DogFishHead is going WAAAY too fast. Down to my last twelve pack. I really can't believe how good it is. I had a problem with clarity early on. Turns out, if you leave it in the fridge for a few days, it clears up nicely. I think I knew that, but keeping beer in the fridge that long is TOUGH.

I'm bottling my sam smith oatmeal stout tomorrow, and brewing my Pliny batch if time allows. Man, I can't believe how many hops came with this kit. I got pellets, and I can't imagine how this many fresh hops would look.

I'll do the Old Rasputin next weekend, and decide where to go from there. I need to get my pipeline filled, or else quit drinking so damn much. And option 2 ain't happening.
