What do you all think are some of the most important criteria in opening a brewery/brewpub in terms of location and demographics?

I was thinking something along the lines of city population->number of breweries in said city->population density, and then breaking down the actual demographics of the populations that rank highest. What demographics would be most important here in terms of age/race/gender/income? I'd think something like populations with a high % of 21-40 year olds, predominantly male caucasians whos income is at least $35k would be the primary targets? From my very limited brewery/brewpub/craft bar visits this seems to be the majority of the makeup. Perhaps the income should even be boosted some?

I think state laws play a big dynamic. Craft beer awareness is a big proportion. Cant be starting one in South Dakota.

As far as the next big brew off, I'll throw in a vote for a balanced Pale Ale or a Saison.

What if we each did a SMaSH beer, we could all do the same grain bill but each use a different hop. Could be a good little learning experience.

A smash is more about tasting the ingredient wether its the hop of malt. It's up to you guys if you'd like to do the experiment to learn more about base malts or a hop. I think and American Pale Ale works best as a smash as far as style goes.

Whew, well that was fun. Honey Ale is in the fermenter, Pale ale in bottles. We're taking a pounding from the storm right now, but my beer is safe n sound. The pale ale tasted pretty damn good despite being warm, uncarbonated, and pretty young. I can't wait to try it in a couple weeks - that is if I have any left after giving bottles to family and friends...

Haven't brewed since early January, but doing two batches tomorrow. (A House Ale and a Nut Brown.) It's going to be a long day, as each batch usually takes me at least 5 hours from start to finish, but hopefully a friend is coming over for a few hours to help during the transition from batch 1 to 2.

Finally had a 120 minute Dogfish last week, just amazing beer. Hard to get a hold of.

I need new glassware, anyone got ideas for beer glasses/mugs? I think I would actually prefer glasses.. maybe stemmed?

I would be up for a Vienna smash. I have 4 oz of Motueka that I think could work well in a SMaSH beer. Bitter to around 30-35 IBUs? Are we going to fix the yeast? I wouldn't mind doing it with Cali common ale yeast or the Orval primary yeast (it is pretty clean for a Belgian with a bit of tartness). Or I would be fine with something like us-05 if we are all doing the same.

I think id rather do a Munich malt I think. Vienna is pretty sweet imo

I'm a huge fan of tulips. I mostly use a glass from The Bruery

It's very similar to the Stone RIS glass.

These are my two most used glasses, great for almost any style.

Agree with above I seem to defer to our tulip for quite alot of beers, really helps get the aroma.

So I guess Tulip only refers to the flared top to help capture aroma.

rapid, that's a pint glass. A tulip will have a wider basin and then come back in a slight bit. Some of them will flare out again at the top like this:

I was completely unaware of this beers reputation otherwise I would have drank it sooner than I did. Apperantly it won the Fruit Beer at GABF in 2010 or 2011.

I did not have any knowledge of this beer other than I got it while out in CO 6 months or so ago. This beer rocks! It is unique in the sense that it tastes like a cherry pie. So good, yet distictly a beer at the same time. I wish I would have bought more now.

Well worth a recreation if you guys are up to it.

I got my package yesterday, and one of the beers I ordered was not there, replaced by a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid. I emailed them to find out what was up, and they said that they ran out of that particular beer, but rather than hold up the shipment until they got more, they threw in the Hop Stoopid and would mail the other one later. Great CS.

Theres a store in Orlando called Total Wine. They have a huge selection of beers. Its the best store IVE Ever been to.
