Hmmmm, I'm a pretty big fan of Oskar Blues. It looks like it's about an hour away from Denver.

Originaly posted this in the OTT Beer thread, but no responses. So:-

Has anybody tried Young’s Special London Ale recently?

I haven't tried it since they closed the Wandsworth Brewery down. It was pretty spectacular then, but I was getting it in prime condition from source (working on the site at the time).
I work for a brewing engineering company, and have worked in many breweries but Young’s was special. It broke my heart when it closed down.
Reasons to love Youngs:-

Engineering Manager gave the staff a bollocking for not drinking enough at lunchtime.
Go outside for cigarette - meet Pygmy goat.
(Old UK Users Only) Mr Young was exactly like Young Mr Grace from are you being served.

It was a brewery not a beer factory.

Another nice job.

1999 working on Y2K Compliance for Carib Brewery( St Kitts).

We had a computer hardware problem(SLC PLC -- almost certain that no one here will know what this is)
US Supplier working on another project had a spare on site , so I phoned up to ask if we could borrow this.
Conversation:
US Guy: How are you Doin'
ME: OK
US Guy: What! you are on a Carribean Island working in a Brewery AND YOU ARE ONLY DOING OK!

Yea, part of a group buy ... either 200 or 220, don't recall if the 2-row is 50 or 55lb sacks, for $130.24 shipped ... group needed 42 sacks to place the order ...

http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f174/

Edit: The CM-2ROW are 55lb sacks, so $0.59 / lb shipped

im having 20l of pilsener fermenting in my fridge since 8 days.the temp varies between 9-12°C(not easy to adjust because the thermostate isnt working) and there is still no kreusen on top of the beer.just a little foam but that was there from the beginning but i have the feeling that even that is disolving.the beer smells nice and its bubbling but why is there no kreusen?

I throw an Oktoberfest every year with my homebrew ( ok ok, so this will only be the 2nd year ) so I'll be brewing a ton this weekend ... usually my brew day consists of 3 consecutive double batches ... so 3 10 gallon batches, and takes about 12 hours if I'm being honest with setup and cleanup times

My Scottish 140 Wee Heavy ( which I actually already brewed months ago in anticipation for Oktoberfest, takes 3 months to chill out ) takes 15 lbs of base malt for 5.5G, so just one of those uses up 30 lbs when I do my doubles

Most of my other recipes contain ~10lb of base malt for 5.5G ... so 20lb of base per recipe and I'll easily go through an entire 55lb sack in one brew day

This guy tho ... this fricking guy ... I'll now have enough in my reserves to make him:

LOL that RIS sounds re****ingdonkulous.

Wish I had some extra $$/space so I could justify buying those carboys, pretty amazing deal on them.

Mr.o I'd be worried if your airlock wasn't bubbling and I am sure there is a reason krausen isn't forming but I'd just say relax don't worry have a home brew

New brewery in Camden, open since 2010. So far had the above /\ very nice, light and refreshing and also very hoppy with a nice citrussy depth. Has a nice light fizz to it as well. Great session beer could drink this all day in the sun with a plate of muscles and some crusty bread.

Also had:

Which was a decent Pilsner style beer but nothing that special imo. Nice and hoppy but a tad too sweet and really not up to the standards of any of the great Pilsners. Any bar with this and Pilsner Urquell or Budvar on offer and I'm basically never ordering it. Is quite cheap though which helps its cause.

Lagers are just a different world, throw everything you've come to expect from ale fermentations out the window. Yeast pitching rate, oxygenation, and temperature will be everything to your lagers, much less forgiving than ales.

If that's a Munich helles, its not a pilsner at all, and should be lightly sweet with grainy notes and light hopping, definitely nowhere as bitter as either German or Czech pils. In fact, your description makes it sound like a damn tasty helles!

Really feeling those tap handles and the logo of the brewery itself. Top pic reminds me of the Brooklyn Brewery logo vaguely. I read the Bottling Success book about Brooklyn Brewery and it was pretty interesting if anyone is into reading. Thinking about trying the Stone Brewing book next.

Anyone have any success making any type of bourbon ales? I grabbed some Buffalo Trace and its probably the best bourbon I've had to date (probably my 2nd or 3rd bottle of bourbon ever) and was wondering if this would work fine for a batch of beer since its not really top shelf or anything. I was thinking about adding a pint into secondary along with vanilla beans and white oak, and possibly some cocoa nibs.

Just picked these up from the Yuengling Brewery - clean, empty, food-grade cenomar barrels. We're gonna make a big batch of Saison in one about a month from now.

Since Saison yeast thrives at higher temperatures, we'll just keep it in the house to ferment, which really helps b/c none of us have a fridge they'll fit in!

Just went to my first homebrew club meeting. Man was it fun. Everyone is super nice and super easy going just really happy people. They had a raffle towards the end where the prizes were sick, like 4 6packs of a year old commemorative brew, 5-6 6oz packages of assorted hops, a case of wine bottles, etc etc... I didn't win anything but a member gave me his winning ticket and I got a 6pack of the brew. Same member also gave my buddy and his gf two winning tickets and they got a case of wine bottles and 6oz pckg of hops. Some guy got an awesome burner. Man. Really cool people, really fun time. I think they even enjoyed the APA I brought. So stoked .
