Still being finalized. It's mostly my brother's initiative, so I need to figure out yet what all he has in mind.

Any body here ever been to the Dark Lord Day that Three Floyds does near Chicago? (technically in Indiana on border of Illinois)

Three Floyds, who i highly recommend, brews this beer once a year, its a "Gargantuan Russian Stout brewed with coffee, molasses, and honey; 13% abv". This year is the first year you'll have to purchase a ticket just to get in the event, and the beer itself will be sold in limited quantities. This is the only place you can buy this beer.

Rated as one of the best beers in the world im very interested in going.

Finally got to try Pliny the Younger today. Here is my review...

On Tap

Toronado
San Diego, CA

(Transcript of my tasting notes)

Radiant and clear golden orange with a very thin head. Leaves some lacing on the glass.

Pungent orange and grapefruit hop aromas. Alcohol is hidden in the nose. Typical West-Coat DIPA aroma, but not over-the-top or particularly spectacular. Good, but not great. I expected more. Hop Stoopid and Sculpin have better noses.

Taste is bitter hops with little to no malt character. Simple, bitter and pungent hop juice. Expected but for some reason disappointing. Alcohol is exceptionally well-hidden. I would not believe this beer is 11% abv.

Thin to medium mouthfeel. Similar to Elder and Blind Pig. This is the anti Sierra Nevada Hoptimum.

A fantastically drinkable DIPA. The alcohol is fantastically well hidden. Refreshing and delicious.

A delicious and sublime DIPA, but I don't think it quite deserves its reputation. It's delicious, but I am convinced I can find year-round offerings that are just as good if not better and are far less expensive. Drink it if you got it, but no need to go crazy trying to find it.

Serving type: on-tap

So I jumped back in this thread to see if anybody was able to get some Younger this year. Anybody else? I'm so jealous of ya man!

Had this recently. It was pretty good, but not necessarily memorable for me. It wasn't too expensive, though, so it's not a bad buy by any means. ish

I want that beer just for the bottle. It's hilarious.

I had half of one of these on Friday:

17.6% abv barley wine.

Strongest beer I've ever had, now, by quite a bit. I think the next strongest was like 13% or so.

Surprisingly tasty. There was some alcohol bite in the first couple sips, but it got right to work and quickly smoothed out a little. Otherwise nice, rich, barley wine flavors.

Got in line around 11AM with my winning scratch ticket for one bottle of this years Kate the Great, the #2 ranked beer on BA. Waiting for my old man to swing up to crack this bitch tonight.

As far as Portsmouth, The Coat of Arms isn't bad. Ri Ra is one of the nicest looking bars in the old Market Square Bank, even if the selection isn't that great. I like Red Hook but abhor the pub there, comes off super corporate. If I really want to try some great stuff, I'll go to The Strange Brew in Manchester.

Any good Abbey Dubbel recommendations?

I'm currently really enjoying Abbey ales and figured I'd ask to see what people enjoy to see what I could be missing out on? Thanks.

Ommegang Abbey Ale is good and fairly priced. I also like Westmalle Dubbel.

This weekend I was at Sidecar in Philly, which was the "IPA's Greatest Hits" station for this weekend's Philly Craft Beer Express. Blind Pig, Ruination, Hop Wallop, etc.

Personal favorite was the Hopslam on cask

Yeah the Westmalle is good

This guy does a bunch of beer reviews on youtube and did some random footage of him waiting in line four hours to get a case of Kentucky Breakfast Stout at Founders limited to one per customer so he got one with his wife.. Hopefully I can find this in 4 packs soon which I will snap purchase a few of them if I'm lucky enough to find it.

I live in Michigan, it came out yesterday, distributors hit my area today, and I legit had to go to three different stores to grab the last two at my final stop. Will be posting on it in a bit. Each store only gets a case.

Just got a bottle. Same deal at my local store, where they only got a case and will sell 1 bottle to 1 person...

Not the same deal since that guy got one case not one beer.

Four packs are starting to hit the stores but didn't see any yet the few places I checked. Hopefully I didn't miss out yet but I think they just haven't hit the shelves by me.

How much did they charge you for a single bottle?

I actually don't know. I paid about $30 for that bottle, a 6 pack of nugget nectar and a 22 of rogue irish lager.

No I got two beers. The store got one case. If you haven't gotten one yet, they're gone. Absurd how fast it flies off the shelves.

Anyway, Founders KBS drink report (camera went kaputt recently, so unfortunately picless):

Pours pitch black, and absolutely opaque to light (literally held it up to an exposed bulb and nothing got through). Two finger head was a very dark tan, receded neither too quickly nor too slowly, and left behind plenty of lacing. A spin of the glass yielded a viscous coating of the side of the glass, as it to be expected for an 11.2% ABV beer.

The beer smells strongly of chocolate with some light coffee notes. I'd be hard pressed to tell if I were smelling a cafe mocha or KBS if put to a blind-folded test. Scent in not alcoholic in the least.

Mouth-feel was medium, and extremely smooth. KBS is dangerously easy to drink. Taste-wise this is probably the most interesting beer I've ever had. At first sip, strongest flavor is coffee which was a little surprising given how strongly it smelled of chocolate. The bourbon-cask-aging really shines through in the finish, which is strongly alcoholic and has that smoky woody quality of a good bourbon. Subtle notes of vanilla and caramel in the bourbon finish.

All-in-all, I think it lived up to its hype. Really wish they brewed this more often so it could be had for less that $6 a bottle. Gonna take the second one home for my pops.

Yeah, it was on tap at a place out here on the 16th. Unfortunately I couldn't make it there that day. I'm probably out of luck.

One big problem is many party store owners get this and don't even put it on the shelf they just buy what they can get from the distributor (most stores it is just one case) and keep it for themselves which I guess is a good perk for them but not for the consumer trying to track it down.

You guys keep your KBS. I'm off to Westvleteren today, and then a beerfest in Tournai.
