Both are excellent. I wouldn't say that one is better than the other, they are just different. It all depends on what kind of tasting mood you are in at any given time.

Last weekend I got the usual glare when I walked in with a twelver of Sam Adams' Noble Pils, but hey, I tell her, it's take-home work.

When you've got that much sitting around it makes it easy to keep from cracking into something you want to cellar.

Something called the World Beer Cup was held a few days ago and the winners are in this link;

I am sure that participants of this thread have experience with many of the winners listed. The Allagash White and Troegenator are fine examples of their respective categories.

There were also some surprises, especially in the macrobrewery classes. I loved the high placings of two of my favorite childhood beers (Mickey's Malt Liquor & Colt45) in the American Style Specialty Lager.

Completely agree.

But my current favorite is 50/50 Stone Pale Ale & IPA. I reckon one could try the same with Ruination.

Where I live on the East Coast, the IPA and Ruination are readily available in retail. The Arrogant Bastard/Double Bastard, both regular and barrel aged are also usually offered by the better beer bars in town as well.

What I find funny is that their standard Pale Ale is nowhere to be found. This seems counterintuitive. I haven't seen nor tried it but I would guess that it is milder than their other offerings and would be more accessible to the broader beer drinking population.

My local liquor store in Chicago just started carrying some Stone beers last week! I was so excited I had to pick up a 6 pack for $18 lol. Awesome stuff though. My roommates think I'm ******ed for paying that much, but w/e they only drink bud light.

Also I have a friend who got a Mr. Beer brew kit for Christmas. He did all the initial steps and mixed it all in the keg thing to let it ferment. They say let it sit for 1-2 weeks and its been like 4 months haha. Would it be okay to drink or has it gone bad by now?

I have been a big fan of their stouts. The Torpedo Extra IPA recently became available in my area and to say it is really good may be an understatement. It achieves that elusive balance of being extremely flavorful and aromatic while remaining quite quaffable.

From what Ive heard Mr Beer kits are pretty Bush League...I wouldnt expect any stellar results.

RDH-I started the Brew process on Sunday my first batch...the recipe is called a "Well Made Triple"...I'll let you know how it turns out.

Also, the Craft Brewers Conference and Beer Olympics came through Chicago last week. Wish I could have gotten to more events, but was very busy with random ****.

I did get to a tasting of beers from "The Bruery" out of Orange County at the Blackbird on Tuesday, though. They specialize in Saison's though I believe their most popular brew is the Orchard White, which is a Belgian style wit.

My favorite from their offerings was the Saison Rue - named after the founder, who was also there to answer questions. Very nice guy.

Prob a pack of Ruination, which run higher than reg IPA and the Pale Ale.

Stone just did a week long event where they were introducing Chicago to Stone brewing co... kicking off serious distribution to the windy city.

Fat Tire Amber Ale and Ranger IPA are both brewed by New Belgium Brewing Company. I just thought it was a funny mistake that you made, but I would have to agree with you that the Ranger IPA is quite good.

cant believe I just found this thread. this is going to take up a lot of my time. Im beer obsessed and drinking a Surly abrasive ale right now (their new double IPA). Living in MN is great for beer. not quite CA but pretty awesome.
