Both are excellent. I wouldn't say that one is better than the other, they are just different. It all depends on what kind of tasting mood you are in at any given time.

Yeah, I've got about 2-2.5 cases of beer in a corner behind a living room chair, and then another 3 cases of beer in the kitchen... next to my kegerator, which right now has 25 gallons of finished beer and another 10g of fermenting beer. Last weekend I got the usual glare when I walked in with a twelver of Sam Adams' Noble Pils, but hey, I tell her, it's take-home work.

When you've got that much sitting around it makes it easy to keep from cracking into something you want to cellar.

Something called the World Beer Cup was held a few days ago and the winners are in this link;

http://www.worldbeercup.org/winners.html

I am sure that participants of this thread have experience with many of the winners listed. The Allagash White and Troegenator are fine examples of their respective categories.

There were also some surprises, especially in the macrobrewery classes. I loved the high placings of two of my favorite childhood beers (Mickey's Malt Liquor & Colt45) in the American Style Specialty Lager.

Completely agree.

But my current favorite is 50/50 Stone Pale Ale & IPA. I reckon one could try the same with Ruination.

Where I live on the East Coast, the IPA and Ruination are readily available in retail. The Arrogant Bastard/Double Bastard, both regular and barrel aged are also usually offered by the better beer bars in town as well.

What I find funny is that their standard Pale Ale is nowhere to be found. This seems counterintuitive. I haven't seen nor tried it but I would guess that it is milder than their other offerings and would be more accessible to the broader beer drinking population.

I have to say, Bear Republic's Racer 5 is one of my top 3 beers ATM.

Sierra Nevada Torpedo is also really good. Double IPA.

In my opinion Stone Ruination f-ing rocks & Stone IPA f-ing rules... so do you want to f-ing rule or do you want to F-ing rock? LOL

My local liquor store in Chicago just started carrying some Stone beers last week! I was so excited I had to pick up a 6 pack for $18 lol. Awesome stuff though. My roommates think I'm ******ed for paying that much, but w/e they only drink bud light.

Also I have a friend who got a Mr. Beer brew kit for Christmas. He did all the initial steps and mixed it all in the keg thing to let it ferment. They say let it sit for 1-2 weeks and its been like 4 months haha. Would it be okay to drink or has it gone bad by now?

It'll be "ok to drink' in the sense that it won't kill you. So have a taste and let that be your guide.

I have been a big fan of their stouts. The Torpedo Extra IPA recently became available in my area and to say it is really good may be an understatement. It achieves that elusive balance of being extremely flavorful and aromatic while remaining quite quaffable.

I would assume that there would not be much demand for a pale ale because so many places make a decent pale ale. Not as many places make great IPAs and other more specialty beers.

What store?

Also, the Craft Brewers Conference and Beer Olympics came through Chicago last week. Wish I could have gotten to more events, but was very busy with random ****.

I did get to a tasting of beers from "The Bruery" out of Orange County at the Blackbird on Tuesday, though. They specialize in Saison's though I believe their most popular brew is the Orchard White, which is a Belgian style wit.

My favorite from their offerings was the Saison Rue - named after the founder, who was also there to answer questions. Very nice guy.

I thought that $10.99 for a 6 pack of Stone IPA last week was high until I read this.

Just picked up some tickets for this:

http://www.familytreeclinic.org/arborfest/beer-wine/

All the usual suspects for a beer event in MN but they usually always come up with something new. Plus, beer. Should be a blast.

Also definitely planning on hitting this up:

http://mnbeer.com/2010/03/30/bells-f...at-stub-herbs/

Sounds super awesome. It would be so awesome bad if I won a years supply of Bells.

I agree. Calling it merely "really good" is probably because I compare every IPA to Pliny the Elder, which is readily available around here.

Speaking of IPA's, Fat Tire's Ranger is another nice one that may be available throughout the country. It doesn't quite have the "grapefruity-punch" of a Pliny or a Torpedo. The flavor is a little more flat and hoppy, but still a nice IPA.

Prob a pack of Ruination, which run higher than reg IPA and the Pale Ale.

Stone just did a week long event where they were introducing Chicago to Stone brewing co... kicking off serious distribution to the windy city.

Fat Tire Amber Ale and Ranger IPA are both brewed by New Belgium Brewing Company. I just thought it was a funny mistake that you made, but I would have to agree with you that the Ranger IPA is quite good.

I always do that (mix up Fat Tire and New Belgium). I actually realized I did it itt like 20 minutes after I posted while I was driving in my car. I considered turning around to catch the "edit" button before it expired, but I was in a hurry

I knew someone would call me on it...
