Have you started bringing him to obedience training or anything? One of the best things about these classes is the interaction with other dogs. Bring him to the dog park like suggested but if you have any friends with dogs set up times they can play and hang out together. The more they interact with other dogs when they are young the better imo. If you don't have friends with dogs then I really suggest obedience classes and dog parks.

Obedience classes are a good idea.

per the park -- dogs are social animals. They have instincts that prevent them, for the most part, of getting in serious trouble with other dogs. Most people take their dog to an off leash park with the expectation that it is going to run around and play fight some with the other dogs. This is a natural instinct, and how dogs learn to get along with each other.

Both the dog and my s.o. are mad at me for getting him groomed. I specifically said not go any shorter than 3/4" because my s.o. would be really mad if it was shorter. Just picked him up and she pretty much shaved him except for his legs. Crap. The dog is really upset and won't speak to me and the s.o. is upset. ugh. The dog's ears are bleeding.

Ok but don't laugh. I'm already in a bad mood.

Before...

and after...

Tonight the inside of Gunny's ears are inflamed and bright red. I think the groomer should not have shaved the inside of his ears

I'd be livid. Other than refusing to pay and not going back, is there anything you can really do though?

Gunny went on Ambush Makeover, poor guy. But with the blue handkerchief, he's still stylin' and profilin'.

It may be standard, but it's not what was requested. The groomer was given instructions and did not follow them.

I agree completely.

However, if you look at my post, including the part i quoted from katyseagull, you will see that i was merely responding to the statement "OK, but dont laugh, im already in a bad mood"

My point was there would be no reason to laugh -- Gunny looks 100% standard and not ridiculous at all. She should certainly be upset that the groomer did not follow her instructions. But her description of the grooming seems to indicate that she thinks he looks outlandish or ridiculous. At least as far as the animals I have seen in the past, he does not -- he looks the way a freshly groomed schnauser usually looks.

Schnausers gonna schnause, IMO.

Thanks, we were the second people who got to choose. this first people actually nearly ended up taking 2 instead of the one that they originally planned.

There were 5 in the litter and i could have taken all of them especially when they are all running around after each other making funny squeaks. However with one at home already we just wanted a companion for her and not a pack. Will try and post some pics up later of them all feeding and with their mum.

My sister has a minature schnauzer and i have to admit i chuckle when he goes in for a grooming and its like one of those hidden camera tv shows as what looks like another dog emerges. Id have a word witht he groomer asking kindly whether they could follow your instructions next time and not what they think you would actually like done to your dog.

Well I called the owner of the shop early this morning and was very polite but told her that I was confused about the clipper length. I tried to phrase it like "I just need you to clarify what I should ask for next time to ensure the right length, because the groomer and I had gone over this in detail and she stated she was going to use her longest blade which she said is 3/4"". The owner told me they actually used a number 8 blade so his hair is 1/8" long! Haha! Oh well. She said she would talk to the groomer and find out what happened. I thanked her for looking into it.

I really appreciate you saying this because the only feedback I've been getting at home is that he looks terrible. If my s.o. had said he looks just like a schnauzer, then I wouldn't be feeling so bad. But what he said is "You ruined our dog."

And you are right, Schnauzers gonna schnauze. What can you do? He just ate a half a stick of butter right off my countertop. grrr.

I love the one that you chose. I think you have a winner there. He is a handsome fellow! Looking forward to your pics.

that's unnecessary and mean. It's a dog. If he looks a little goofy, you just laugh at him and tub his belly.

Sounds like the dog isn't the only one in need of socialization and training.
