I didn't see the original Blade Runner until a few years ago. Since I was young I always remembered him from the movie Surviving the Game.

obv BLADE RUNNER but also NIGHTHAWKS is the other movie I think of when I think of Rutger Hauer. Underrated Stallone movie that came out before BR, worth a watch if u've never seen.

RIP

Saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last night. Really enjoyed it. I did not feel the 2h45min run time which is always a positive for a movie that long. It feels like QT wanted to make an homage to the time period more than a story he needed to tell. The amount of detail and world building is spectacular. It’s not his strongest writing though. I would have liked to spend more time with the Margot Robbie plot. The foot fetish is really out of control in this one too.

Not going to say any more than that until the discussion gets going

Watched Orson Welles's The Immortal Story on the Criterion channel, his first film made in color in 1968, one I was unaware of until last night. It stars Welles and Jeanne Moreau and features some typical Welles's flourishes. It's about an old man who wants to make an urban legend come true. The film clocks in at 58 minutes and is well worth watching.

Rocky Balboa and Lando Calrissian go after Roy Batty. What's not to like?

exactly.

although quite different, The Hitcher and the 70's Texas Chainsaw Massacre were the two horror/terror movies that had the most profound impact on young me.

Just got home from watching it. I really enjoyed it too! Loved all the music as well. There were some great lines in there Ditto on everything you said. I also don't want to say too much either until they all see it.

I only want a handful of those... and I already have them on BD. It's great to see the genre get respect.

I’m still not sure where I’ll put “Once upon a time in Hollywood” in the Tarantino film rankings but the movie is 2 hrs and 45 minutes long and I enjoyed every second. Tarantino brings a certain energy to his movies that is contagious. Just an awesome movie all-around.

Also thought the movie was surprisingly touching when it came to the Tate murders in a way that i didn't expect it to be even though I kind of saw where it was going with it.

Also saw Once Upon a time in Hollywood last night, liked it a lot, probably #3 or 4 for me.

I lost it laughing so hard I was in tears when Leo was ripping on himself in the trailer

OUATIH is the first bad Tarantino film. It commits the ultimate sin, especially for a QT movie, it’s really boring and obvious. It very loosely connects two stories, one we don’t care about and the other we already know every thing about. It is entirely lacking the famous QT dialogue, structure, and soundtrack. It’s not a QT film by any definition we have come to expect in 20 years.

The “twist” is so obvious anyone with a functioning brain cell, who has ever seen a QT film, will see it coming miles ahead.

It’s my least favourite QT film by a wide margin which bums me out a lot.

It also has the most star powered cast in decades which is criminally underused.

Once you notice the foot fascination you can never unsee it.

Soundtrack also couldn't compare to Pulp's, Jackie Brown's, or Reservoir's.

Someone mentioned a lot of the famous snappy dialogue missing and I agree.

I'm sure there are other Werner Herzog fans frequenting this thread, so thought I'd post a link to this new podcast episode I just listened to here:

https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/kas...2/the-portal-2

This is a great long-form discussion about film-making and so many other things. I could listen to Herzog talk for hours more.

Honestly think this is overly harsh. The whole Lancer sequence for instance is a sublime Tarantino segment
