That trailer looks way better than I ever imagined it would.

I have no idea what to make of it.

I hate the whole idea of a Joker backstory. I think one of the most unsettling things about The Dark Knight's Joker was that he just shows up out of nowhere like some elemental force of chaos. Bane and Scarecrow had backstories, you could understand what they were up to. Joker was simply incomprehensible at every level.

Anyone ever see the 2011 prequel/sequel/remake of The Thing, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton? It takes place in the Norwegian camp that gets destroyed by the Thing before it goes over to Kurt Russell's camp in that cute dog.

It's damn good...I mean, not as great as the 1982 John Carpenter version, but still, damn good.

The article I linked mentions Robert DeNiro being in the trailer looking like Rupert Pupkin.

I wrote a post then accidentally deleted it. SO MAD. I'll write a proper one later. But if you're interested in the movies I watched at the 24hr marathon here's my letterboxd list.

Joker trailer is straight fire!

Watched an early showing of Pet Sematary. Never saw the original movie or read the book so can't compare to those. Thought it was good, but too slow at the beginning. The second half was very entertaining.

Saw "us" a couple of night ago, the cast was terrific, the script seems overly complex in the end and i m not sure if the story is really working, not a huge letdown or anything.

I wanted to like it as I very much appreciated its use of mainly practical FX, but I gotta say it just felt flat for me & despite its impressive transformation scenes & R rating, just came across as curiously bland. I revisited & all to give it another chance & again just found it meh. I get how it would work for others though. I don't think it holds a candle to the original which I recently revisited & it's still awesome.

I usually have zero interest in that genre, but that Joker trailer has me intrigued.

The Joker trailer looks awesome. A story. With characters. No scenes entirely comprised of CGI. Give me more of this, please.

"The Killing Joke" backstory is still the most commonly referenced, but who knows...even that one is sketchy at best. It's fun for fans to choose to believe as much or none of it as they choose. Maybe his most famous line from the comics is "If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!" It wouldn't surprise me if the movie ends with something like him talking to a psychyatrist at Arkham saying "you can believe all this or not."

My main issue with that movie is it seems like they're going to make the joker into a sympathetic character. Isn't the core tenant of his character that he's just a raging psychopath with no redeeming characteristics?

One cool idea for a joker origin movie I heard somewhere is that he's in Arkham Asylum talking to a doctor or interrogator and is telling his life story, but he tells multiple versions of it and they're totally different in content and tone. So it could be like an anthology movie almost. Maybe even have multiple actors play him in the different stories? So in one version he could be sympathetic, in one he could be an *******, etc. and it would keep his true origin a mystery.

I think I'm beginning to better understand Andrei Tarkovsky's films...

Although I've had my fill of superhero movies, there is something about the Batman world that I find interesting.

Haven't watched the Joker trailer in case I do end up seeing it, but I thought I heard this is DC's attempt to do some off colour movies from their Elseworld line of stories, things like random origin stories or less common heroes and so on. I also heard the Joker is supposed to have a young Bruce Wayne which seems odd to me if he's supposed to grow up and then fight Joker.

People seem to be pretty amped for Phoenix's attempt, but some things I wish they'd just leave alone. Ledger's Joker was perfection imo.

I'll try to stay away from joker's trailer in case the movie turns out good, but I don't have much faith on hangover's director

Multiple students wanted to watch The Outsiders after exposure to Hinton's source material. Used it as an opportunity to expose Coppola asides to kids who have limited ideas of The Godfather.

One kid wanted to see The Conversation, but by appropriate school policy a full showing is 86ed. Hopefully he checks it out at some point. Told him he should watch it in tandem with Enemy of the State thinking he's bound to stumble upon that at some point. Smart kid, had lots of instinctual reads on Leave No Trace with which we group-assassinated a couple of periods.

Outsiders was a bit better than I remembered it. Not great. Gone With The Wind visual allusions are all over the place which made for a couple of decent teaching moments.

Always looking for HBO, Showtime, Netflix & Amazon PG, PG13 material.

Shotgun Stories should've been R.

Godfather I&II: Historic
The Conversation: Must see
Enemy of the State: There's worse ways to kill time
Gone With the Wind: My wife loves it
Outsiders: Meh
Shotgun Stories: Better than Mud
Mud: Everyone who sees it, likes it.

My bad, The Conversation meets school standards. Could happen today.
