This is exactly right. They start perfectly and never let up.

i hope you're not glossing over the actual credit sequence

i've always thought the way the credits are superimposed upon, and integrated with, physical items representing the roles of the individuals was conceptually brilliant and the cinematography is amazing. all of that for a two minute credit scene

Us is another winner for Jordan Peele but I’m going to see it again before I write about it.

Delicatessen is such a masterpiece that was overshadowed by amelie poulain worldwide. Best movie made by Caro and Jeunet.
City of lost children is worth watching as well.

IMO City of Lost Children is the best Caro & Jeunet film.

Yes. When I watch it there's a lag time of a second or so until I snap to what it is I'm seeing. Then I start wondering how they maneuvered the camera...

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

I was expecting a fun action flick but damn, Triple Threat was bad. Michael Bisping is a UFC legend but he really needs to stay away from acting.

I dont think i'll ever see a action/martial arts movie as good as The Raid movies.

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

8 1/2 I have no idea what to say about this.

My best shot at plot is a director is making a movie about his life but the movie itself is the movie or something like that. Some sort of cinematic mobius loop. Or maybe it's just about a guy that doesn't have his **** together. I really have no clue.

Really interesting to watch but I couldn't get much farther than that. I'm sure there was all kinds of meanings to everything but someone is going to have to explain it to me.

For those who have seen it what is your take on US? Immediately following viewing I didnt know how to feel or whether I liked it. 1 day later and I haven't been able to stop thinking about the film.

You got it. A director is making a movie about his life, his memories, and his (many) fantasies. The ending may be one of the most exhilarating in all of cinema.

Watched Us...really liked it, think Jordan Peele has the horror/comedy formula down to perfection. Not sure if the ending "works" but the movie is so fun and entertaining that I didn't mind that it didn't land at the end.

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Us was fun, but the strong reviews and Get Out led me to expect something more. Us is more of a straight-up horror film that doesn't have much of a social satire element.

Re: Alien (1979) reproduction

Right on, kids!!!

It's great to see things from 40 years ago (!!!) are still followed these days.

Oh yeah, ALIEN is turning 40 in May, for those who didn't realize!

Oh yeah... I am all over that. Day 1 pre order for me.

Since there was a new treatment of the film that was supervised by Ridley, I expect a theater release in digital theaters sometime soon.

Dragged Across Concrete

Love this guy Zahler tbh. Great, dark 70s-style crime drama, with some mostly hilarious and occasionally grating trolling/bait to stir up debate. Loved the look of this. Love that genre movies like this still get made and can get attention in this non-stop boring superhero climate. Good cast and performances. Hope this does well and that he continues to pump out stuff like this every couple of years.

Also rewatched Kathryn Bigelow’s great 90s movies Blue Steel and Strange Days. Both hold up/are better than i remembered.

Leon Morin, Priest was good, especially emanuelle riva, but tbh it does get kinda boring. Just too dull stylewise for me.

Come and see is a movie i’ve read so much raving about in the 10+ years from i first heard of it until i watched it, so inevitably it was a bit of a disappointment. Still pretty good, it just didn’t make the extreme impression on me that it seems to have done for many, maybe it would have if i went in cold with no expectations.

Alice in the cities was a lovely movie. Really great b/w photography

Green Book

1962 goombah on goombah violence: check.

Hot dog on hot dog violence: check.

How about: some quiet time.

They're actually staying at: The Schenley.

Virtuoso: Italian!

I can't do this, Tony: Eat the god damn thing!

Love letters: Stuckey's pecan logs.

I know it's: a complicated world.

Dignity: prevails!

The world is full of: Lonely people afraid to make the first move.

Juke joint redemption: BANGxBANG.

Criticisms concerning whitewashing of 1960s racial problems are misplaced. This is a good flick that makes some interesting observations. Sorry I didn't see it sooner. Check it out.

Free Solo My wife refused to watch this so I took the opportunity while she was out of town.

Riveting as everyone has mentioned.

What I found particularly interesting were the discussions he had with the other hardcore free solo climbers. They understood each other like nobody else could possibly understand.
