My choice for "best" would probably be The Godfather.

As far as favorites, I thought about this some and I figured that any movie that I'm willing to turn on and watch again and again, even if I pick it up in the middle of the movie, would qualify.

The Wizard of Oz
A Few Good Men
Jaws
Forrest Gump
Groundhog Day
A Christmas Story
Elf
Pulp Fiction

I'd have some that are neglected by many. I'm thinking of smaller films like The Florida Project, but in particular Lars and the Real Girl.

I love the way an entire community supports Lars, accepting his bringing a sex doll to church or to the hospital and the way people care about him. I think the film celebrates community and what should be our connection to each other in a world increasingly divided and downright hostile to difference.

Looking through the lists of critics, I don't see anyone mention A Ghost Story by David Lowery, a moving and profound film about grief and loneliness. How can anyone not be moved by that pie eating scene or a ghost who no longer understands what it is waiting for?

I can't distinguish between best and favorite, but I do think I can defend my favorites as "best" too.

I will try to list my list of top 50 films of the century because I know some of my choices will surprise me. I think most of us will be surprised by a few films that we might not realize how much we value them.

American Fiction lives up to the hype. Hilarious and so cringey uncomfortable at times, but also amazing well written characters and a lot of heart. My wife and I both loved it.

Seems appropriate, or we can try to list say a top 50. Not sure we would have enough interest in a draft.

Spoiler:
The first two acts were fine, but the idea of them being driven into a legal cul-de-sac only for Tom Cruise to crack Jack Nicholson on the stand in 5 mins was a pretty bad ending

I’m doing preproduction for my next movie: A Few Good Women. Phat Mac is writing the script.

Truth is boring and redundant, lies are what drives civilization into fun times and makes life worthwhile.

Just make sure you use the A in the title.

Are also recent movies I love and are on my list.
Did you prefer Nope to Peele's other two films? I enjoyed it but thought the previous two were both considerably better.

Also, what is Ida?

We should be used to it by now. And don't we need someone predicting civilization crumbling? Or civilization having crumbled?

Ida is a great film by Paweł Pawlikowski,
but I might like his Cold War even better.

I like Get Out and Us, but Nope is a masterpiece.

Ida is gorgeous and beautiful and sad. I also like cold War, as JC mentioned.

I could make the best movies ever made in two hours of visceral horror and sin. But you pansies of slobbering “ I’m saving that universe for mankind” ruin everything!!

the amount of parodies of this line for a few years after the movie came out...too many to count. Basically any time a store was running a special, we would get a Jack Nicholson impersonator in a commercial saying something like this "You want deals....you can't handle the deals"
