Hmm, I saw parts of that movie and loathed it. But I don't think Costner did anything good after Bull Durham.

the animated Disney robin hood with the lion as prince john and the fox as robin hood was pretty damn good.

Kevin Williamson is pretty consistently a damn fine screenwriter. He's behind some of the most successful franchises that we still talk about to this day.

Scream
Scream 2
I Know What You Did Last Summer
The Faculty
Teaching Mrs. Tingle
Dawson's Creek (!!!!!!)
The Vampire Diaries
The Following (KEVIN BACON!!!!)

I don't think it's a coincidence that Scream 3 was awful in every way (different writer), but Scream 4 was a return to form and for me comes very close to the top spot for the series.

Clovis might appreciate that the writer for Scream 3 was Ehren Kruger, whose major screenplay credits include two Transformers movies

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

BTW, what was his point with black people on scream 2? After watching the second one I realized there wasn't a single person on the first that was black. It's like he tried to make up for it on the second but it didn't seem natural at all. Black characters seemed very stereotypical. Don't know if that was just another trope he was playing with tho, since some of the black people were the first to die.

LaBouf really wasn't bad at all...the part just seemed under-written compared to Borg

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Maybe he purposely didn't want to include the "token black guy" in the first seeing as how it was a rich northern California small town. Obviously not exactly going to be too racially diverse. The second one was made in a college town atmosphere, a little different.

Hell, I dunno?

Not my experience that the writer has a lot of control over casting.

I have to concur.

Looking for some film recommendations in the genre of government cover-ups/conspiracy type stuff. Something like The Pelican Brief or Capricorn One, though newer films are more than fine. Thanks.

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Thanks, it's not a genre I love, but there are some really good ones that pop up every once in awhile. I am not sure if chinatown fits and canadian bacon is a joke obviously.

Wind River was really really good. Felt like it subverted a lot of storytelling standards yet managed to keep the story not just interesting, but more interesting as the story went on, even past the climax.

I only disliked one part, and had a question about another:

I just watched Wind River and was also confused by that point - check out the 5th paragraph of the Wikipedia entry for the answer.

Got around to watching Alpha. Thought it was pretty great, but I'm also a big dog lover. In fact I watched it with my dog and made jokes to her about what happened to her, this is what her ancestors looked like etc.

The Parallax View! Also 3 Days of the Condor but that's more widely known.

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Halloween (2018)

Meh. Some good parts with Jamie Lee Curtis, and I liked how three generations of women come together to fight off Michael, but it was just a retread slasher pic. Had none of the atmosphere or heightened tension of the first one.

And I guess I'm getting old, but I do not like seeing anymore characters we've grown to like and who are nice, teenage boys and girls, get slaughtered because of some dumb plot point. Weird, because I still like exploitation and grindhouse stuff...guess it's a "mood" thing.

Hunter Killer

Surprisingly entertaining. I love submarine movies, and this one has a lot of cool stuff in it, including some great military/naval porn (missiles, counter measures, etc.), if you like that kinda stuff. If you can past some real clunky and cliche dialog, it's pretty exciting. And this is the last film of the late, great Swedish actor, Michael Nyqvist.

Man I kind if thought spotlight was a disappointment considering my lofty expectations. It was such serious material and I felt like only the Ruffalo scene was worthy of it.

Also, in the spirit of todayís date, a fun cover-up movie is the Night Stalker (1971) with Darren McGavin as Kolchak.
