Nope - quite an entertaining monster movie, if a bit slow at times. There is some really good cinematography and imaginative shots. Kaluuya's performance was a little odd to me; he's often eerily calm when his life is in extreme danger. Although Jordan Peele's always aiming for social commentary, I don't think there's much of a deeper meaning behind this film. If he was trying to reach for something more, he doesn't succeed this time.

Watched for the second time You Were Never Really Here, and the scene where he takes his dead mother into the pond to bury her is as haunting as similar scenes in Vigo's L' Atalante and Laughton's Night of the Hunter.

You Were Never Really Here is a brilliant film.

It's been a while since I have seen it (since I dont own it on disc), but there 'may have' been a similar scene in Kurosawa's first film Sanshiro Sugata (1943)... but i can't be 100% sure.

you may know this already, but the main character from Kurosawa's Sanshiro Sugata, Susumu Fujita, it the main 'Homma' sensei in the film Yojimbo... the character leaves over a wall as he runs away before a big fight. It was Kurosawa's way of passing the torch from one main character to the next... Fujita to Mifune.

I was unaware of all of this. Fujida was in Hidden Fortess as well, but to the best of my knowledge, I've never seen Sanshiro Sugata. As much as I love Kurosawa, I've stayed away from his wartime stuff--but I might have to check out Sanshiro.

Wish theater re-releases were more of a thing. I'd pay $20+ a ticket multiple times to see The Hunt for Red October or Raiders of the Lost Ark in the theater again. I'd even buy popcorn and a sprite.

HBO Max suggested A Most Violent Year to me today and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Just the right pacing. Oscar Isaac is fantastic. 1981 NYC vibe nailed.

I'm a huge Margin Call fan and JC Chandor is a very solid 2/2 for me. Haven't seen any of his other stuff yet.

I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as Peele's first two films, and I thought it was less ambitious than either of those. The only "social commentary" I got from it is that exploitation of nature / animals by humans is overreaching and can lead to disaster.

Raiders comes regularly to the Alamo in Austin. Red October maybe every 5 years.

A few years ago I got to watch Seven Samurai in an art house and it is a completely different experience than watching it at home. More immersive somehow.

Just read that Frederick Wiseman has completed his first fiction film at age 92. And you think it's hard to change old habits?

7S is an EPIC... despite the constrained aspect ratio they need to be experienced on the big screen.

Saw Vengeance, BJ Novak’s first film, and it’s pretty good. I was quite impressed as I wasn’t expecting to like it very much at all.

Road to Perdition is now 20 years old and holds up well. The cast is star studded and includes Tom Hanks as the father, the son was a then 14 year old Tyler Hoechlin (now Superman of Superman and Lois), Paul Newman, Judd Law, Daniel Craig (007 James Bond) and Stanley Tucci. The cinematography and musical score are understated perfection.

PREY - huge Predator fan, I thought it was great and the action top notch. I found the Native American scenes a little cringey, but maybe that’s a personal thing.

- I grew up in the woods and used to fantasize about running from Predator so it was extra enjoyable. Loved how they incorporated animals into the story.

- I’m a Trachtenberg devotee based on what I’ve seen; I read that he is doing a TV series adaptation of WATERWORLD which is an all time guilty pleasure and I’m already excited.

- Went back and watched PREDATOR 2 afterwards. Still completely ridiculous, still surprisingly watchable.

I tried to watch Ingrid Goes West cause I'm in love with Aubrey Plaza, but it resisted all my attempts to prove it watchable. It reminded me off a stupid Black Mirror episode about social media that I also quit on.

These morons are wasting the talents of my lovely Aubrey, although I just saw she's in some new thing but I'll bet it's bad lol. I've lost all faith in the movies, final answer.

I will try this and report back tomorrow but I'm skeptical.

There's nothing really there in Ingrid Goes West. It's like they said, Let's make a movie about Instagram.
