I'd assume so and I'd bet that the same crowd didn't like Inception, which to me is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Inception is a great first watch. Unfortunately, the film quickly falls apart upon repeat viewings.

I’ve never heard anyone say they didn’t like Inception. I’ve never heard anyone say they did like Tenet.

I liked it too. Bond films are always just fun. Thought Safin was a worthy villain to send off the series with.

I bet that Leonardo would scowl at this idea. I mean do dreams fall apart when you wake up and think about them. What would Freud think.

Dreams have much less to do with Freud and more so with Borges, that is kind of the point. Inception would of worked better as a horror/darker movie as it was initially meant to be, but I got over my first viewing deception and really enjoy what it is and how it reached out to a larger audience.

I think I liked Nobody more than John Wick. As good as the action scenes in the Wick movies are, they can get a bit repetitive after a while.

Talk About Movies: Part 4

Kajillionaire was just too weird for my tastes. Wood and Richard Jenkins are solid and made me laugh a couple times. Ultimately it was too wacky and unrealistic for me to relate to or pull anything meaningful out of.

Donald Cried was a real pleasant surprise. Never would’ve watched without this thread, so nice one. Guy returns to his sleepy hometown to bury his grandma and gets stuck running errands with his old neighbor who has some sort of mental disability. Neighbors hilarious, other guy is a good straight man, + it has heart.

List of best 26 gambling films of all time: https://www.vulture.com/article/best...&utm_source=tw

The ordering is a little suspect but lots of good movies on the list. I watched their #1 California Split from the 70's and it was solid and interesting and worth a watch if you haven't seen it imo, but also not even close to as good as gambling movies like the Sting and Rounders which were ranked way lower.

As similar as they are, I see them as completely different genres. Wick has the big-budget shoot outs, Nobody has Saul, the Reverend Jim and RZA.

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Yesterday I watched Lamb.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't much what I expected from the trailer. It's definitely not a horror film; there was nothing scary at all about it, just a bit of spookiness and suspense.

For the most part it was a straight family drama with a bit of the supernatural. It has elements of a folktale, and almost certainly is intended as allegorical, although it is debatable as to what. It's tough to say much about the plot that you don't already get from the trailer without giving spoilers, but the group I saw it with mostly agreed that the ending was disappointing.

The film is very well made, with beautiful cinematography that makes me want to visit Iceland. The acting is very good, though fairly minimalist in dialog, which was good for me, as it had been many years since I had seen a foreign language film in a theater.
I probably could have understood the entire plot even without the subtitles.

Overall watching the film was a good experience, and it fully kept my attention despite the lack of much action.

you don't see it as an allegory for humanities need for Anthropomorphism?

I’m quite certain I can’t pronounce any of those names correctly. But I am fully aware of the power of dogs.

Watched The Asphalt Jungle for the first time the other night. Somehow I've missed this one. Sterling Hayden is magnificent, and the ending is kind of stunning. Features a young Marilyn Monroe.

Last night watched Pina, Wim Wenders film about Pina Bausch, the choreographer. Mesmerizing film and lovely dance sequences, especially those using chairs.

Is Rami Malek's character the worst Bond villain?

Westerns are not really my genre, but I thought Old Henry was really good, and Tim Blake Nelson is fantastic in the title role. Highly recommended.

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Saw the new Bond the weekend before last. Was not overly impressed, it was just alright.

I think of the Craig bonds it was probably on par with Spectre, i.e. not as good as Skyfall/Casino Royale, better than Quantum of Solace.

Seem to enjoy the Mission Impossible movies more, they just better embrace the action and cut away a lot of the fluff. It's been almost 10 years since a good Bond movie.

This is a longtime favorite of mine. I saw it on TV s a kid and was captivated by the B&W photography. Directed by John Huston. I think the ending had a lot of influence on later French Noir-ists. I love anything with Hayden in it.
