HH is one of my favorite all time directors... his Scarface is just amazing, especially that opening tracking shot.

Imagine making a film about a real life gangster in a time when that gangster could actually reach out and get you anytime he wanted. Not quite the same as a movie about william randolf hearst... much more dangerous.

The Suicide Squad - A total abomination. How do these things get even semi-positive reviews?

CODA - Really enjoyed it.

Val...

I was really like this film... Not as much of as arsehole as the media would have you believe.

All the Kings Men A humble and honest man becomes involved in politics, rising to become governor. Along the way humility and honesty give way to corruption and abuse of power.

On one level it's a commentary on all things wrong with politics and power. But, it's also an interesting noirish story of the inner circle of this man. Would recommend.

Captain Fantastic Story of a family living completely off the grid. The father teaches them what he believes is important for living a fulfilled life. An unexpected event forces the family to venture out into the world, where their life skills are put to the test.

If you like quirky indie films, you'll love this one. Even if that's not your particular taste it's worth a watch.

Paterson is beyond outstanding.

Boxes, circles, rectangles, angling lines. Words, squares, interiorization, externalized world building. Discipline, allusions, duality, routine.

Hints of Stranger than Paradise. Tastes of Dead Man. Salutes to Wes Anderson. An English Bulldog.

William Carlos Williams, Method Man, acceptance, loss, hope, commitment, love, rebirth.

Lord knows how many times you can watch this film before you stop seeing into the deep screen while grasping the available themes.

Jarmusch is a Gift.

Jared Harris plays Dracula's son, who doesn't want to be a vampire and tries to suppress his desires, and the great, little seen Elina Löwensohn plays the title character, Nadja - Dracula's daughter, who falls in love with Lucy, the wife of Donovan's character.

This is a strange, gorgeous movie, of its time. My Bloody Valentine and Portishead saturate the soundtrack, the absolutely breathtakingly beautiful black & white cinematography is astounding and they even use the much loved-Fischer Price PXL2000 toy camera to show Nadja's POV. Stunning in every way. But it's not for everyone, as there is a deadpan humor running underneath. With Donovan and Elina Löwensohn in the cast, and David Lynch producing (he even has a cameo!), this is a strange, oddly endearing hybrid of a movie - Hal Hartley meets Lynch.
I was never that familiar David Lynch and for sure never heard of him when I first saw him on the show "Louie" like 7 or 8 years ago. I just knew I liked him.

Here is 2 short clips from the show with him in it. Louie is going to possibly take over for Letterman when he retires and David Lynch plays a guy in the biz teaching Louie the ropes. Great stuff.

I've seen this twice now, it's crazy good and like a breath of fresh air as modern movies go, I love it to death. And very positive and life-affirming while it's being completely original, now that's unusual! I think it's destined to be a much-beloved cult film that'll be around awhile as people hear their friends talk it up. I do think it probably deserves a better title though, talk about misleading.

lol good luck...it is an art film with a capital A

Lynch is one of the best filmmakers ever...Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, and Mullholland Drive are masterpieces.

His other films are varying degrees of good to great.

But if you're not into ambiguousness in your story-telling, he won't be for you.

His films are about emotion, not plot.

He would have needed a long reach because the movie was released in 1932 and Capone had already been convicted of income tax evasion and was jailed in Chicago in 1931 (and subsequently transferred to the federal penitentiary in Atlanta in 1932).

I'm not sure of what to make of it. I think that I, or the filmmakers, lost track of either the plot or the theme somewhere around the midpoint of the movie. That, of course, doesn't mean I didn't like it.

Spoiler:
If you are talking about a different Annette, Baron von zipper steals the whole flick.
