What are your favorite war films? ^^ This post fires this to the top of my queue.

Off the top of my head:

Saving Private Ryan
The Thin Red Line (One of my all-time Top 3, period)
Full Metal Jacket
Paths of Glory
Dr Strangelove

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

there are WAY to many to list... besides, just because a film takes place during a time of war, it doesn't make the movie a war film.

you haven't seen a war film until you've watched all 10 hours of The Human Condition in one day

nice to see another great title on Criterion Channel, I'll have to check it out

The Soviet version of War and Peace is another one. No other movie battles in history even come close

Re: Talk About Movies: Part 4

Guys, just recommend the film you want to recommend. The qualifiers of “no love, wtf” and “you haven’t seen X until” are absolutely sophomoric.

You should be excited to share your favorite things with people who haven’t experienced them. Leave the elitism at the door.

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with the intonation involved with the rarely used emoticon

Apocalypse Now by far for me (the original theatrical version). The journey from real to surreal is incredible. And no flag-waving, just showing what war does to people.

I forgot, but I was going to mention that this may be Tony Leung's best movie.

I watched it in one day.

Highly recommend The Burmese Harp once again along with Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence.

Come and See is a must see.

I would throw in Empire of the Sun to round things out. I've never been able to persuade many people to watch it, however.
