I watched it in theatres when I was a teenager and was bored out of my mind. Will have to give it a rewatch

Ferrell is one of those people I'm hot-and-cold on. Old School and Anchorman really funny, but a lot of his stuff seems like it's just run-of-the-mill junk.

Pretty much my attitude, but I gave it a shot because of the supporting cast, and it makes use of literary theory, sort of.

literary theory= “Literary theory” is the body of ideas and methods we use in the practical reading of literature. By literary theory we refer not to the meaning of a work of literature but to the theories that reveal what literature can mean.

you teachers just got to make up big words for simple things, to confuse us idiots.

and then to top it off make the definition of it just as confusing

Scarcity Message Effects on Consumption Behavior: Limited Edition Product Considerations

Quote:
In the consumer behavior literature, consumers were reported to signal their uniqueness to their friends and colleagues by possessing scarce products (example: “Ferrari” special edition laptop; Gierl & Hurttl, 2010).
This ability to signal uniqueness manifests under the LQS condition because only a predefined number of potential consumers can possess the LE product (Aggarwal et al., 2011)

Ray, you have no idea how bad it can be. And let's not even get into film theory.

anchorman
old school
talladega nights
megamind
eastbound and down
zoolander
drowning mona (fantastic super under-appreciated film)
the lego movie
stranger than fiction
tim and erics billion dollar movie
wedding crashers
the other guys

cuz of a ferrell embargo seems like a big mistake mistake.

not watching elf isn't some huge loss but it was a fun movie.

I agree with everything apart from Elf. Missing out on that is a huge loss!

i find him irritating and not funny. no doubt he has a big following and expect many of his movies are good or he wouldnt be in them getting big bucks.

same with al pacino i dont like him and all he plays is the same character, himself.
doesnt mean he hasnt given great acting performances. just not to me.

You talking about Old Pacino or Prime Pacino? There's a big difference.

I've never cared much for Will Ferrell, either. It's one of those things I'm well aware I'm not seeing what most people seem to see, but I don't care whose opinion is closer to objective reality, I'm just content to enjoy the stuff I enjoy and let others enjoy the stuff they enjoy.

I just realised that list is missing Step Brothers, which is a comedy classic.

I definitely understand people not liking Ferrell tho.

I have trouble relating to the guy, but I have nothing at all against him. Watch the one where he and Marky-Mark are the inept detectives.

That is actually a film where I can stand to watch Will and Mark, a feat I never thought possible.

I found Eva Mendez surprisingly funny in that one, although she didn't have a major role.

Elf is definitely elite. Anchorman to me seems like the best of a certain type of zany movie that Will Ferrell owned for several years there, lots of good ones, the college one, the stock car one, the skating one etc. Elf is different and I think better than those, and I bet it wears better over time too.

Run Hide Fight, Kyle Rankin, 2020

Well-done thriller about a school shooting. Isabel May is fantastic as the high school girl who turns the tables on the school shooters. Thomas Jane and Rhada Mitchell play her parents...Treat Williams plays the Sheriff.

Hard to really describe this one...it's so well done, but with all that's happened the last week or two in the real world, it's hard to be entertained by kids getting gunned down in a school shooting, you know?

It's played more as a thriller/Hollywood revenge flick then a true drama, like Villanueve's Polytechnique, which is much more devastating and realistic.

But Run Hide Fight is an effective little thriller.
