Viewed The Naked Gun Trilogy; as usual with most serial movie spew the first was the best. The other two, The Smell of Fear and The Final Insult, had their moments but were much less worthwhile. Fun to see OJ in his movie prime, The Queen of England get her just punishment, and a real stuffed beaver.

Being an old man, I saw this movie in a theater when it first came out: Network (1976), I have not seen it since.

Most movie buffs know the main plot line of 'Mad' Howard Beale and his tirades and the famous speech by Corporate Bigwig, Arthur Jensen (Ned Betty) in the corporate boardroom. But aside from the whole TV spectacle and the social and society commentary there are many subplots within this movie that lend it a full body characterization of humans; love, sex, marriage, influence, business, backstabbing, manipulation, power struggles, even terrorist groups, plus the emotional traps we all are susceptible to. These undercurrents actually add much to the movie and flesh out the whole in a wonderful and poignant way.

And Network is still a great commentary on our present time, with TV and the addition of social media, in the last ten years especially, it gives a good mirror on many current situations and circumstances.

This is one fine movie with every actor giving a standout performance. The direction and editing are superb, the almost documentary feel giving a realness unparalleled, and the writing/dialogue simply outstanding.

A+

One of the best movies of the 70's and still outstanding. Master movie making. AND; I'm Mad as Hell that it did not win best picture!

I liked Shame a lot. Michael Fassbender is becoming one of my favorite current actors, he really kills this. Some very harrowing scenes. The Mulligan girl is good too.

Network is an all-time great, even with that awful performance by Faye Dunaway.

did you see the Fassbender/McQueen movie, Hunger? That's an amazing film by them.

I don't think that's * fair. I always thought that her * awful performance in Chinatown made the movie. Maybe she's * simply operating several levels above the rest of the universe.

*very

Was watching Hal Ashby's Being There the other night, and was struck at how prescient it is with what's going on these days, and how Trump is like Chauncey Gardiner.
But then I realized that this is a horrible disservice to Chauncey Gardiner.

Also, the documentary about Ashby, Hal, is outstanding.

I had no idea there was a Hal Ashby documentary. I'll have to check it out. Being There is a masterpiece. So are Harold and Maude and Last Detail.

I think Faye Dunaway's success hinged on the fact that the audience got to see her gunned down in the final act of her early movies.

I guess I forgot to mention I had not seen Network since 1976, until yesterday; I got it from the library and viewed it and really enjoyed it again. Hence my post.

Faye Dunaway is great; I’ve always wanted to bang her from behind, while pulling her hair and yelling at her to squeal like a pig. It is what she deserves and secretly wants!

I saw Being There for the first time a couple summers ago, and was struck by the same comparison. Heard about this later:

Zeno is correct as always. It is what I kept expecting Steve McQueen to do in Thomas Crown Affair.

God damn I love Network soooo much. Timeless masterpiece.

Being there is also easily in my all time Top20. It's beautiful and they don't make em like that anymore.

I thought it was fantastic and at least as good as the first one...The Jim & Jerry-scenes alone are worth it.

Can someone explain to me how he/they make those movies? It just seems impossible for it not to be fake

I think The Dictator was better than the Borats.

There's a sequence in Hunger that involves prison guards and riot shields. I was watching at home with my surround sound system blasting my ears. I went to turn the volume down because I felt so uncomfortable. I stopped myself, and realized that was the point of the sequence. To feel unnerved, uncomfortable, and not ok with what was happening on-screen. That rocked me. Great film.

The one long shot between Fassbender and Liam Cunningham as they talk is astounding. Something like 11 minutes long, I think?

Good Time Written and directed by the Safdie brothers, it feels like a spiritual prequel to Uncut Gems. The basic concept is the same. You have a character of ill repute in New York who gets into trouble, and to get out of that trouble they do something that escalates the situation and then it escalates and then escalates some more. It's like they decided to throw acts 1 and 3 out of the script and just repeat the "rising action and obstacle" parts of the story over and over. It's also like having a 2 hours anxiety attack. Not as good as Uncut Gems, so if you haven't seen that I advise you see this first, but still very entertaining.

Shame - Loved it, really could feel the addiction pulling him deeper and deeper. I LOVED the score

The Big Short - one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. Was living abroad during the crash and was disconnected from it; never knew how big of a deal it was. I’m sure glad I never went into finance. Reason we decided to watch it was because the real Mark Baum is speaking in my fiancées class this upcoming week, so will be fun to hear him speak. I’d give this movie pretty close to a 10/10, Bale and Carell were the stone cold nuts

Martha Marcy May Marlene - recommended by my brother who usually has the same taste but turned out a huge meh for me, I thought the dialogue (and the acting) between the sisters was painful.

Borat 2 - Not as good as 1 but still had quite a few one liners that made me almost p*ss myself. Can’t remember last time I laughed as hard as when he included ‘Kenneth West’ as one of the world leaders

It Follows Got some recs here so I thought I'd give it a go. Sufficiently creepy. Best horror movie I've seen in a while. I'm surprised to see it isn't really a recent movie. I had never heard of it before now.

Death Curse of Tartu I absolutely love "so bad it's good" movies. This was not one of them. It was so unbelievably bad it was just bad. I don't even think good pot or hallucinogens salvage this disaster. Don't waste your time.
