Because it's Iannucci the movie is mostly focused on the finding the humour in all of the situations. It's an interesting and much more enjoyable take on Dickens but it kind of feels like a bunch of loosely tied-together vignettes. I enjoyed it and it has some very funny moments but it's average as a whole. 6/10
It felt like a two-hour adaptation of source material that normally is produced as a mini-series. There were so many stories that felt rushed. Vignettes, as you say. It would have been better either spun out longer, or shorter with some characters such as Dora written out.
The cast was incredible - particularly Patel who was mediocre in
Lion. The young Patel, as in
Lion, was amazing.
