If you haven't seen Trouble in Paradise, it's on Criterion. The credit sequence alone is wonderful.

My daughter was explaining the male gaze to my ten year old granddaughter. I told her I'll send over my copy of "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema," but she doesn't think my granddaughter is quite ready yet.

This was occasioned by granddaughter's comment on Iron Man 2.

As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light.

I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good.

I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.

Spontaneous Darkly funny, harrowing movie about a senior class of teens that start to literally explode. There's no warning, no reasoning, and no pattern. JUST BAM. Highly recommend it. Langford is terrific in the lead role, continuing a solid run of performances. I like her a lot in Love, Simon and Knives Out.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 A quick glance at twitter and letterboxd and the consensus is love it or hate it. I enjoyed the performances. Restrained Redmayne is good. Hard to have a bad time with this stacked cast. Rylance chews a lot of scenery in this one.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream WarriorsForgot how much I enjoy this one. Walks a fine line of campy fun, and pure horror. The kills are memorable, the kids are actually quite layered. Can see why this is the favorite for many.

First two are on my list. Dream Warriors and the first one are very close. I’d say the first one is better but 3 was more enjoyable.

Joy 2018 about the life of a Nigerian prostitute in Austria and explains how sex trafficking trap works. Very well done with such realistic acting and dialogue and plot that it seems like a documentary. You will understand the social problem better. Austrians do try to help but it is a mess. Some sadistic scenes and the hopelessly miserable predicament these women are in makes it a tough watch.

Snowpiercer A dystopian movie about how Earth has frozen over and the last remnants of humanity are all living on a giant train that runs on a loop around the world. The people are sorted by class, with the poor in the back, middle class in the middle and the upper class living a life of idle luxury in the front. The poors, led by Chris Evans, stage a revolt. This is directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also directed Parasite, which is also an allegorical movie about class inequality.

If you haven't seen Parasite, see it. Then you really won't need to see this. The class allegory is much stronger in that one, as tons of things about this train and the world inside it make no sense. The action scenes are very bog standard as well. Tilda Swindon puts in the only great performance as one of the lieutenants of the train owner.

Green Room A horror/thriller about a punk band that does a gig for a neo-Nazi group and as they are about to leave, see something they shouldn't have, and get trapped in the aforementioned green room of the property. A cat and mouse game commences between them and the neo-Nazis. It reminded me of Red State, the movie from Kevin Smith and keeps up the tension and has solid thrills. Patrick Stewart plays the leader of the neo-Nazis but mostly just grunts through his lines in a semi-American accent. Anton Yelchin is much better as one of the band members. It stays well within the tropes of the genre, but if that's what you enjoy, I can recommend this.

I just finished watching this. I found it absolutely riveting. And I'm old enough to remember watching the riot footage and the convention coverage on tv as it happened.

I can't imagine how someone could hate this movie. And while I agree with your comment about a restrained Redmayne, I couldn't disagree more with your evaluation of Rylance chewing a lot of scenery. I thought he was absolutely brilliant.

Overall, I give this movie my highest recommendation.

I liked Gimme Danger, Jim Jarmusch's documentary about Iggy Pop and the Stooges, it's on Amazon. Renewed my appreciation for all things Iggy, nobody else like him that's for sure. Lots of great anecdotes, old footage, etc. Loved how he was/is Iggy but still very much Jim Osterberg the trailer kid from Michigan. The film seemed very true to the spirit of the people involved.

Possessor. This is the description: Tasya Vos, an elite, corporate assassin, takes control of other people's bodies using brain-implant technology to execute high-profile targets. Now combine that with Mandy and that’s this movie. The violence is way over the top and there is straight up porn in one scene. It’s a 70’s slasher/sci-fi/gorefest wrapped in a modern story. I liked it quite a bit more than Mandy. I think this could have been a great series. This will probably be a very polarizing movie as the critic review are great and the audience scores seem to be either 10/10 or 1/10

I loved this as well, but of course I am a huge Iggy fan.

is there ANYTHING worth seeing at the movies? I am dying to go back and share the Rona, but there doesn't seem to be anything good to watch.

on a side note, if AMC is renting their theaters to anybody with $99... can I watch a x-rated movie in them? asking for a friend.

Possessor Uncut checks all your boxes. It’s as close to X rated of any movie I’ve seen. You will probably be the only person in the theater so instead of $99 you can get it for $5. Plus, the movie is pretty good.

The Brain That Wouldn't Die Unfortunately I turned this on about half way through because it is a particularly awesome movie.

A doctor is keeping a woman's head alive until he can get a suitable body to put it on. There is some sort of monster in a closet (not sure how that happened) that the head can communicate with telepathically. The doctor lures the woman to his lab to perform the operation and hilarity ensues. So horribly bad it is wonderfully great.

The Blob Never seen this and I figured that was something that needed to be remedied. Steve McQueen plays a high schooler that looks about 45. It's no "brain that wouldn't die", but damn entertaining.

Borat: Subsequent MovieFilm I have never laughed so hysterically and the same time constantly think to myself that I shouldn't be laughing at all. Just.......so........wrong............ Highly recommend.

Is this the one where the doctor needs a body so he picks up a blonde (Ms. Vavoom) in a bar?
