Uncut Gems was good, but exhausting. When the big climax happened, I was like,
Spoiler:
"oh thank god, now everyone who knows Howard can rest."

haven't seen Knives Out (only the preview), but i'm curious how many people rating it here have seen Clue! or Murder By Death?

I think that happens a few more times. Along the way they shoot some lasers, flail at each other with glowing swords, and fly spaceships. Not sure why they did any of that though. The film would have been more coherent if they'd spent more time on a few things rather than cramming in loads of stuff.

This was by far the worst movie in the trilogy and in the bottom 3 of all Star Wars movies.

after the guy shoots Adam Sandler, he shoots the guy (Arno) who was Sandler's relative who I also thought was their boss. Arno getting shot seemed totally out of nowhere...why was he shot?
Spoiler:
I understood it that that wasn’t necessarily premeditated - more just to shut him up.

uncut gems 2019

Always viewed Sandler like a wasp who liked to sing about the menora but man does he jew it up in this film (not meant in a bad way, massive chunk of friends and some of my family are jews and because it's internet can never be sure how someone will read what you write)

Was very painful to watch at times but in a good way

I'd like to see kg in more films, curious to see if he can play someone else

Very surprised to see a number of very talented actors were actually in their first role with no IMDb credits at all

Loved the twists and turns (if you can call them that)

Was particularly good how some information was revealed sleepy slowly as it dramatically changed your perspective throughout the film

Incredible ending, amazing film despite that at times it was painful to watch, really reminded me of the degen threads here at 2+2

Regarding 702 & Brian

Major spoilers - will ruin film if you haven't seen it

Spoiler:
that's what I loved so much about the film, as you discover the familial ties you begin to see why he never takes it that seriously

This is later emphasized with roping in the other in law at the auction who charges a crazy vig despite that it's essentially his own daughter's money.

Loved how they did that to show how despite being family they will still bleed each other dry and just a general critique on the diamond district in general.

What I noticed throughout is that Arno never seemed to quite have the situation under control and they seemed to act totally independently. Earlier this could have been viewed as exasperation or stubborness but it also felt like it was out of his hands.

This is especially true when you see Phil making a call with the implication he was going to go after the family aka Arno's sister and nephews. Arno may not care about the schmuck that married his sister but he should care about his sister.

at the end it became revealed that Arno was more the financier rather than the boss all along and hence why Howie got messed up so much earlier when he didn't expect that to happen because Arno was powerless to stop it.

So I think at the end Phil had enough of the disrespect from Howie who thought being family made him bullet proof and then Arno totally panicked because he wasn't ready for that and Phil was just fed up and didn't like loose ends

Phil had the money, the guy called him in to pay it off and then he gets rid of it. Phil leaves but then he's locked up by that same guy just so he can watch him sweat out a game, anyone in Phil's position would do what he did, it doesn't get anymore disrespectful than that

That's my interpretation at least

Myself, and the half dozen people I went with, all agreed Craig did a good job (helped a lot by the writing), but felt pretty miscast for the role. As my Dad put it, he never felt he was watching anyone but Daniel Craig, and my Dad has never seen a Craig Bond movie, so it wasn't that he was typecasting him.

Personally I think someone like Timothy Olyphant would have killed in the role. He already has the accent and is also a very good comic actor.

I thought the last 45 minutes of The Irishman was a snooze fest. I just wanted to turn it off and probably should have.

Interesting insight from the co-writer of Rounders and co-creator of Billions, telling a story about one reason why Runner Runner (which he also co-wrote) sucked so bad:

I don't remember Runner Runner being terrible, but I also don't remember it at all except I think Ben Affleck's character killed a dude by throwing him to an alligator or something. Was basically just a generic crime movie.

gambling related question

Spoiler:
do you think they intentionally made the parlays ridiculous, or was it ignorance?

Little Women This is like the anti-Star Wars. Period drama with meaningful human relationships and a great performance from Saoirse Ronan. The two timelines of the story are blended together in a way that’s really smart and effective.

I love Clue!, but Knives Out is head and shoulders better imo.

Assume Knives Out is head and shoulders above Ready or Not because that sucked major donkey balls.

I had zero knowledge of the cast prior to laying 3:1 odds that Meryl Streep was in Little Women. Easy money.

It's going to be tough to watch anything Winona Ryder was in get rebooted without her... All time crush right there until she got replaced by Jennifer Connelly and Kate Beckinsdale

there isn't a book alive that will let you make correlated parlays such as celtics 1H n whole game (one of the bets he makes).

fan duel will let you parlay player props apparently but even they won't take correlated parlays.
