That list is more like top 25 movies that no one saw.

Some of the individual lists are absurd but the consensus list is pretty reasonable:

It Comes at Night Well, first of all..

Spoiler:
Nothing really comes at night here

Also,

Spoiler:
The son's dream sequences seemed out of place and unnecessary for the story.

I think the basic premise was pretty good but the execution failed. I could have lived without ever seeing it.

*And yes, I realize that that is not adjusted for inflation, or there would be other billion dollar grosses in 2019 dollars such as E.T., Gone With The Wind, etc.
Definitely not box office related, my comment was. More so from an enjoyment/entertainment standpoint for me, 2019 was the least interesting year of film in at least a decade. Other than Avengers (which was fine), OUATIH (disappointed for the hype), and Ad Astra (alright), I didn't go to the theatre and had really zero desire to.

Surprised Knives Out isn't getting more love, it's like the perfect film, I'll put my thoughts in spoilers bc it's hard to comment without spoiling.

Spoiler:
Too many mysteries these days tell the story so that they can keep the audience confused. What makes Knives Out so good is that they sorta just tell you what happened and yet you're still sitting there encapsulated by the characters and can't figure out what happened.

"I've found dogs to be the best judge of character"
"Megan woke up at 3 AM to the dogs barking"

Well we only heard the dogs bark around one person.

"I see so much of myself in Ransom, but he's become arrogant, to the point where he couldn't tell the difference between a real knife and a prop."

Every piece of dialogue matters. They don't try and trick the viewers. They don't try to preach. It's a movie that exist totally within the spectrum of the universe it created. The performances are all great. It's a movie that has instant rewatchability because watching it from the perspective of knowing the mystery will only make you appreciate the film more.

It's funny, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, it's magnificent. Go see it if you haven't. 10/10.

Knives out was a 9/10 for me and I felt bad for hating on the director for the last jedi.

Atlantics is a strange film but worthwhile. A ghost story about love and greed and female empowerment and a bunch of other stuff. Beautiful imagery throughout.

Have you watched Too Old Too Die Young? I really loved the look of the series but not sure it was worth 10+ hours of my time. Looked really cool and had some interesting themes here and there but man it was long and self indulgent. I still really enjoyed it.

Talking about NWR, i recently watched Uncut Gems and it reminded me a lot of the Pusher trilogy with the pace/ frenetic energy, it's really good and reminded me that I should probably watch the first Pusher again.

I mostly liked Uncut Gems. Lots of energy and Sandler is the loser that you root for.
The way they tied in the stone, Garnett and the series was pretty cool.
Julia Fox...All DAT ASS!!
As usual with gambling movies they NEVER get it right.
Aint no bookie letting you parlay the first half and the game with the same team and Aint no casino taking that kind of parlay action on prop bets.

was this a really bad year for movies or something? if the irishman and once upon a time in hollywood were 2 of the top 3 then it just doesn't seem good.

About the only similarity I could see between Motherless Brooklyn the movie and Motherless Brooklyn the excellent Jonathan Lethem novel was Tourette's. Even their Brooklyns were different! I never felt drawn into whatever it is they were doing and left halfway thru.

I'm not sure Hooper is the one to blame.

In 40 years of going to Broadway or Broadway-on-tour musicals, Cats is by far the worst show to which I've ever been subjected. I remember taking my wife to it for her birthday in the mid-80s and she was so excited. We had both been sorely disappointed in the first half of the show; then, during intermission she read through the program and discovered that the show was based on poems by T.S. Eliot. She turned to me and said, "No wonder I hate this show; I've always hated T.S. Eliot."

I'm not sure what Andrew Lloyd Webber was thinking when he decided to make a musical out of that book of poems about cats; but then again, ALW was also responsible for another musical abomination called Starlight Express, which is #2 on my list of least favorite musicals.

Anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying that if you're going to LOL Tom Hooper, you have to spread those LOLs out to include ALW & especially T.S. Eliot.

Not a musical fan in the slightest so I can't speak to ALW or TSE, but I will forever hold a grudge against Hooper and The Kings Speech for winning all those awards in 2011, his fault or not!

Just watched Bi Gan's Long Day's Journey Into Night, which is sort of a combination of Tarkovsky and the Carax of Holy Motors. I thought it was thrilling in the most bizarre fashion. Takes on themes of memory, love, and movies. After about an hour and twenty minutes, the main character goes into a movie theater, slips on 3-D glasses, and the screen flashes the film's title, and we're in for another hour in 3-D of one continuous shot. I only wish I could have seen that last hour as it was shot in 3-D.

Totally agree. I’ve seen almost every musical ever made and Cats is by far the worst one by a mile.

I remember seeing it on Broadway the first year it was out...everyone was like, "oh it's so brilliant." And I was so confused lol...because it is truly one of the worst things ever produced.

It’s like the one song “Memory” hypnotized the world into thinking it was a good show.

I've never seen Cats. Certainly not going to rectify that.
