The Lodge features epically bad/only-in-film parenting - leave your kids in a remote mountain home during winter with a woman they've just met but already hate, and who has a seriously ****ed up past! What could possibly go wrong?! As with so many horror flicks, you wonder if any of the characters have ever seen a horror flick before. There's too much silliness for this psychological horror to linger with you. Also included is a rare (and brief) Alicia Silverstone appearance.

Most of them aren’t must-sees, but I could be persuaded.

The Long Voyage Home
Act of Violence/Mystery Street
Vampire Hunter D
Paranoia Agent
Shivers
Angels with Dirty Faces
Dinner at Eight
Clash by Night
Subway (1985)
Obsession (1976)
The Driver
La Rupture
The Set-Up
City on Fire
The Human Stain
Targets
Images
Sudden Fear
based off the fact that I've never heard of any of those, I'm afraid I'll have to agree with Zeno on this one

however, stay true to zeno's avatar of zappa and F philosophy, maybe I'm an obtuse dullard but there's so much more to life than reading abstract writing about abstract concepts - first class in college was a philosophy class and seriously considered dropping out because it made me so miserable reading and disagreeing with people telling me how the world worked

end of rant

there's an entire world of outstanding non-fiction and philosophy is best dealt with by reading summaries of the ideas they put forward - or subbing to this channel

El Camino last night.

I enjoyed it, but it doesn't seem as if anything's sticking with me. I wouldn't say this is a "must see". If you're a fan, it's worth seeing. If not, leave or take it.

Visually great, the story was only ok I thought.

I do have a question; not reallly a spoiler, but I will be cautious:

Spoiler:
When the credits rolled, Krysten Ritter got second or third billing. She was on screen for one minute maybe? Does anyone know how that works, who gets higher billing?

Saw it at our relatively new Alamo Drafthouse. I didn't really get some things about the place.

In the halls they have reproductions of old-time movie posters, but seemingly B flicks I've never heard of (though mostly they listed famous actors), and about half of them were in French.

Before the trailers, they were showing these weird 70s-80s "drugs are bad" PSAs.* I'm not sure if it was an ironic hipster thing (they were comically bad by today's standards) or what.

The frequent coming-and-going of the servers was kind of distracting. I didn't have anything, but the food & drink prices didn't seem outrageous like at the ballpark.

On the positive side, they show a message pre-game that you get one warning for disturbances, and will be ejected after that.* Hardly heard the crowd at all, and what I did was appropriate (laughs at a comic scene).* Good sound, and a nice quiet atmosphere to enjoy it.

I really miss Alamo Drafthouse. Nothing like it where I live now.

Ad Astra (2019 - James Gray)

Liked it. Visuals and music were good, Pitt was good. The moon rover chase scene was incredible. It's hard to quite put a finger on, but like Gray's other movies, it's got some brilliant scenes and is very competent and nice but it's just not great - there's something missing for me to truly love it. Maybe the next one. Anyways, think this might be my favorite by him, along with We Own The Night.

There's always room for you back here in South Texas, bigger. If you ever get fed up with that decadent Florida scene, you know.

David Hume had cool hair. He also dressed well. David is a pain in the ass to read. Rickroll is probably right.

The Proud and Damned, also known as The Proud and the Damned, Proud and Damned, and Proud, Damned and Dead, is a 1972 American-Colombian co-production western film directed by Ferde Grofé Jr..... I was sober when I watched this a few days ago.

Chuck Connors stars. And Cesar Romero! Filmed in Colombia. Ex-Confederate soldiers, as a gang, ramble about Mexico and get caught in some silly local war. They all die. Chuck gets hung about 2/3 of the way through the film. The rest are shot down in a sort of The Wild Bunch scene. Good stuff; better than I expected. Only recommended if have no other pressing things to do.

Yeah, I think that I liked the experience. Especially if they're serious about evicting people who jabber during movies.

As opposed to the AMC-type theater, where they show some cartoony thing asking to "please turn off your phones and be quiet" that nobody takes seriously.

I have this fantasy where something comes up that looks like a trailer for a new Pulp Fiction--in this scene, Jules and Vincent are having dialog like in the original.

Then, a phone rings off-camera. Jules turns to the camera and goes off.

"You. Yes you, mother****er! Turn off your goddamn phone, NOW!"

Except, you know, professionally written and acted. But you get the idea.

I hope some of you watch Claire Denis's High Life on Amazon now. I'm not sure what to make of it.

**** sucks. Can't imagine another one of this director's movies without that's guy's soundtrack. It's such a perfect pairing of sound and visuals.

Went to see Ang Lee's Gemini Man which was shot in 4k/120fps... story was pretty generic/bad, it's watchable but the digital version of young Will Smith was weird to look at and he/it is on screen a lot. I saw the movie at 60fps and the action scenes looked really smooth/crisp but the high frame rate gave the movie that soap opera effect during the dialogue scenes that makes it borderline unwatchable at times. A local theater is showing the movie at 2k/120fps 3-D and I might go check it out just out of curiosity.

It's cool that Ang Lee is toying around with the technical limits of cinema but he's such a gifted filmmaker that he's wasting his time making nonsense like this.

Can't wait until the "de-aging tech" craze is over and done with.

All I See Is You

I guess this is supposed to be an erotic thriller, but it was completely boring. Blake Lively and Jason Clarke have no chemistry together, killing thriller part of the movie, and Blake Lively's character isn't interesting on her own, killing the erotic part of the movie. I found myself guessing the twists pretty early on and fast forwarding

if one were shallow and depraved enough just to watch for sake of blake lively... how would you rate if green lantern were a 2 on a scale of 1-10

Too many film makers get blinded by the tech and forget it is useless if it’s in service of terrible writing.
