Anyone who hasn't seen Chunking Express really needs to rectify that oversight.

We watched Anatomy of a Fall last night. It's about the aftermath of the death of the father of a young blind son, and the trial of the mother accused of killing him, afterwards. We both were glued to this one. I wouldn't call it great, but it was very interesting. I have no clue about the realism of French trials, but the portrayal was certainly different from here in the US. Would recommend.

Holdovers is available on Amazon Prime right now, looking forward to watching it tonight. I have abiding faith in Alexander Payne.

Late Night with the Devil

Pretty good, but like most horror movies it gets a little wild at the end. Lead actor was fantastic and so was the girl who played Lily. If you are a fan of the genre you will probably love it.

My top 2 would be Election and Nebraska, but I haven't seen Holdovers yet.

Did he do The Descendants also? I find that movie to be very enjoyable.

Woops obviously missed this one before my previous post. Agreed it's a great movie. I've seen it at least a half dozen times and enjoy it every time. Great rewatch value.

I've got to say, after all the negative things I said in my Poor Things review, it's a movie that has stayed with me, like a fairy tale, unlike Oppenheimer.

Past Lives is still my favorite movie from last year.

Past Lives was my favorite although I liked Oppenheimer a lot.

So far this year, it's All of Us Strangers and Perfect Days, which I have seen twice.

it's pure esthetic story telling of the indigenous peoples in various parts of Mexico... there is NO dialog, but the movie doesn't need language to portray the peoples and there lives.

it's a beautifully shot and rendered cinematic piece.
This movie is the stone cold nuts. Riveting. I'm going to watch it again in a couple of weeks. Kanopy. Great rec! TYVM

I had to go outside of the US market to locate the 4k version on physical media because no other market is this currently available... but it's here!

The main issue I have with G-1 is that the girl survives... I wanted to feel the impact and angst of her loss forever because it makes the rest of the story more substantial and permanent. It also makes the specter of Nuclear War MORE REAL... more lifelike and less pollyannish and less 'Hollywood' in nature.

Other than that, I love this Film.

I completely agree but it didn’t bother me. Just “really? Okay” and that was it.

I'm staying at my friend's house pet sitting, so I don't have Criterion. Tonight I watched Nyad, and it's one of those typical sports movies where the hero, in this case, Diana Nyad triumphs in the end. Nyad swam from Cuba to Key West, 110 miles although her achievement is controversial. Apparently Nyad embellished some.

The movie is pretty standard, but the performances by Annette Bening and Jodie Foster are terrific. Bening is about the same as Nyad when she did the swim. The reason to watch the film is the performances of the two leads. There was a time when women in their sixties didn't have lead roles. It's nice to see the likes of Bening, Foster, Helen Mirren, and Meryl Streep in lead roles.

I enjoyed Nyad. I am glad they didn't shy away from the negative qualities which led to having such an obsession like this. I found their relationship to be a bizarre codependency similar to an addict and an enabler yet they seemed to make it work somehow.
