Yep. After she and Boon broke up, I was waiting to find her.

Quintet Some people in the frozen future play some weird dice game and some of them die and get eaten by Rotweillers.

A Robert Altman movie starring Paul Newman can't be bad, right? Bad would be a compliment for this disaster. It immediately made my top ten worst movie list.

Watched Licorice Pizza and absolutely loved it. The leads were terrific, and Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper, and Tom Waits have nice appearances. Reminded me of Punch-Drunk Love and ex-girlfriend who was five years older.

The credits really capture that '70s feel.

Not sure they were actually pornos, but it's still weird they could get away with having that shown where anyone could see it by accident.

I think they were the equivalent of Skinamax films, movies made with just enough story to justify chicks getting nude.
They came on a bunch late at night on the old Cinemax cable channel.

I imagine the drive-in had something similar to draw from.

Clouds of Sils Maria on Criterion is another great film from Olivier Assayas. Juliette Binoche plays an older actor asked to star in a play in which she appeared 20 years prior, but this time she is asked to play the older woman role. Kristen Stewart plays her personal assistant who spends much of the film reading lines with Binoche. The relationship between Stewart and Binoche echoes the play itself, and at times it's difficult to separate the two.

I adore Binoche who once again delivers a great performance, and, as she showed in Personal Shopper, has certainly become a major star. The film itself also echoes Stewart's real life rise from Hunger Games actor.

I watched After the Wedding on Amazon last night, very high quality movie right there, not sure I'd ever even heard of it. I know Mads Mikkelsen a big deal for serious movie people like y'all but I'll still call him underrated. He always seems to kill it!

Bullet Train

Grade: C+

Spoiler:
It starts out very good, but it goes downhill pretty fast. It is basically a dollar-store Guy Ritchie / Tarantino movie, except the director does not realize what makes those movies good. Too much of the movie is devoted to "SURPRISE, THIS ACTOR IS IN THE MOVIE; ISN'T THAT AMAZING?!"

It is inferior to Snakes on a Plane, which is the most similar movie I can think of to this one.

Just watched. Superb acting all around but Mads was amazing. Well made. Grade A. 2006 version. AMC
Thanks

Ambulance - Really bad, and I don't mind a pointless action flick.

My drive-in back in the day would do a double feature. The first movie was always a Disney movie of some sort that ran for 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. And the second feature had a rotation of Kung Fu, horror, cop movies and soft porn. If the first feature Disney movie was on the longer side of 1 hour and 30 minutes, the drive-in didn't waste much time before starting up the second feature even if it was soft porn night. I can think of a few times as a kid going to see a Disney movie and while we were leaving, the soft porn second feature had already started and would see Shannon Tweed's boobs in a wet tee shirt on screen.

The grip that drive-ins continue to exert on my imagination is remarkable; it was like 50 years ago after all. I never even got to go that much, a little before my movie-going time.

There were certain aspects of being a teenager that I miss, and others that I don't. One of the aspects that I do miss was drive-ins.What an education.

Drive-ins are great for making out, but bad for actually watching movies. The sound quality is terrible.

We used to sit in the trees outside the properties for the pg and r rated films when our parents would let us go.
Nothing like a tree full of 10 year Olds yelling and watching for boobies.

BTW, Criterion has Bela Tarr's Satantango streaming. I may attempt to sit through it in one go although I'm not sure I could manage that.

It's been pure joy all day long as TMC is celebrating Toshiro Mifune today. Hopefully some of you can catch the series. Samurai I, II, III is just magnificent.

I tried to prove it once, and couldn't, but I believe it originated the catch-the-fly-with-the-chop-sticks meme.
