Cruise was great in Magnolia and his cameo in Tropic Thunder was fantastic. He's pretty good in just about every role he plays.

I feel like I'm on crazy pills am I the only one who LOVES a few good men?
I've watched it at least 20x and will watch it at least another 20x im sure.

and while I know he's crazy I honestly can't think of anything I've seen cruise in where he was bad, I quite like him as an actor.

oh ya collateral was awesome imo but I'm also a huge mann fan.

A Few Good Men is great. One of the most rewatchable movies ever along with Rocky and Karate kid.

I like A Few Good Men, but Cruise’s plan to make an experienced military office admit to a crime on the stand was not very realistic lol

The Color of Money is another Cruise movie that I love, but that's more due to Paul Newman's performance.

I had forgotten Tropic Thunder. I broke my no-war-movies policy solely for this:

Spoiler:

...and the scene where McConaughey gets a jet.

Glad to see some solid backup on Cruise.

Ones I love that haven't been mentioned: Interview with the Vampire, The Firm, and Vanilla Sky. Although, "gem" status is certainly debatable for the latter two.

well in his defense it was sorkins idea.....cruise just got bullied into that courtroom by the memory of a dead father.

**** jack practically dared him (kevin bacon's jack not jack jack).

On the topic of Tom Cruise, just seen this mad news article.

Tom Cruise space movie producers sign deal with Axiom to build studio in orbit

Yeti, from what I can remember, my taste in tv and movies tracks fairly close to yours as a rule, but I couldn't disagree more about Fresh Prince. I just found it completely worthless and found Smith's bag of tricks unbearable. His charm was completely lost on me. Now I did like Martin a lot of the time.

Miller's Crossing 12 spots above O Brother, Where Art Thou?

miller's crossing #1??????????

now that's some serious self indulgent look at me and how sophisticated i am total *********** douchebaggery list

don't get me wrong, it's high art, it's brilliantly put together, but it doesn't capture and enthrall the audience, it has the same problem as Barton Fink in that interesting and compelling things are happening but you don't care that it does

1 Fargo
2 No Country For Old Men
3 Big Lebowski
4 Raising Arizona
5 The Hudsucker Proxy
6 Barton Fink
7 Miller's Crossing
8 Burn After Reading
9 O Brother Where Art Thou?
10 True Grit
13 Inside Llewyn Dacis
12 The Lady Killers

Unseen and thus unranked

A Serious Man
Hail, Caesar!
The Man Who Wasn'tThere
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
The Tragedy of MacBeth
Intolerable Cruelty

recently watched lady killers, it was not good, but it's oddly stuck with me, which is weird for a film i didn't enjoy - from my understanding it's a remake of a classic so a lot of it was simply them wanting to do their thing and tom hanks excited to play an interesting role

That's the beauty with the Coen's brothers - have seen all films minus The Tragedy of MacBeth and The Lady Killers -, is that the filmography is so malleable and offers different genres/syles, that I have absolutely no qualm with Miller's Crossing being #1 You could of put 2-4 other movies at the top spot and it would of been just fine, such is the greatness of their track record. The rest of the list outside of the top spot, is even more interchangeable.

I'll take 12 films I'll never see for 200 Alex.(or Levar or Mahim, or whoever it is now)

I might give Intolerable Cruelty a shot cause I was a sucker for Cat Zita Jones back in the day.

whatever

No, they aren't my cup of tea, and that, like your statement, is an opinion.

Plus I'd bet money they have Weinstein like secrets, so I'm boycotting them prematurely.

you gotta consider the context with Coen Brother movies. their work in the 80s/early 90s was extremely unique for the times. a similar thing can be said for Tarantino's early movies, there just wasn't anything else like them when they came out.
