I've been looking forward to this movie for so long, can't wait to see it.

The Corn is Green is on TCM right now, good movie but a little squaresville.

saw OLD and it was ok. it would have been better if 20 minutes had been trimmed off. watching them age / fight / have inane conversations kind of got old (no pun intended) after a certain point and really didn't advance the plot.

one thing that didn't make sense to me:

Spoiler:
wouldn't them same force field (or whatever it was) that prevented them from leaving the beach also keep them out?

did I miss an explanation in the movie?

Wrath of Man (2021)
I've quite liked the majority of Guy Ritchie films I've seen but I found this one a bit of a mess, it's kinda needlessly convoluted and muddled and I found it rather boring overall.

Nobody (2021)
This was more like it, a kickass little switch brain off throwback flick in which Bob Odenkirk's unassuming suburbanite with a murky past, opens up an industrial sized can of violence on some no good punks. Anyone who liked either The Equalizer (2014) or the John Wick franchise should have a blast with this one.

Is it just me or is it really easy to forget that Ritchie has done stuff since Lock, Stock/Snatch?

Save for Sherlock Holmes, it's either nothing, or a steaming pile of rubbish.

I really liked RocknRolla, even though it's basically Ritchie doing the exact same thing as Lock,Stock and Snatch. It's a bummer that we'll never see the sequel promised in the end credits.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is fantastic and I think underrated by most.

30 minutes into The Suicide Squad, and, holy crap, is it bad.

I mean, so bad it's amazing.

What IS this? What's it supposed to be? I know it's a DC comic, but I assume the comics had at least a bit of humor, of wit? This is just...gross and violent and poorly shot and even more poorly written and just....nothing.

It's nothing.

“I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema,” Scorsese told Empire magazine. “Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”

No Sudden Move A couple of small-time criminals are hired for a job, but things go wrong.

First, the good. Great cast and very well acted. The story is full of twists and turns.

The bad. So many twists and turns I had trouble keeping up. I could follow the basic story but I got lost on the sheer volume of surrounding characters and plot twists.

Given that, it's worth a watch.

[rant] We have (had) hbo through prime. We have found that the hbo subscription doesn't give you what hbo max gives you. But, it's exactly the same price. We had to cancel hbo and sign up for hbo max and the whole thing was somewhat convoluted. Why in the heck don't they just add the extra features to current hbo customers? Makes no sense to me. The Kid Detective (2020)

Could write a whole essay on why this movie is so fantastic. What a breath of fresh air it is to watch a movie that just exists on its own. Funny, well-crafted, well-acted and, most importantly, a genuine joy to watch from start to finish. Adam Brody was born to play this character.

Everyone should watch it, thank me later.

My goal for the rest of this year... to NOT see one single film, besides DUNE, that has any gun play or explosions...

true story.

I'm watching the great Robert Mitchum in Farewell, My Lovely, taped it off TCM the other night. It's really good, not even sure why I'd never seen it before. I think I probably prefer it to Altman's 70s Marlowe movie tbh.

Watched a double feature last night. I started with Godzilla versus Kong. It was preposterous and fairly disappointing. I hate how the scale of the monsters constantly changes. Sometimes they seem way to big for surrounding and sometimes too small but in any event is totally inconsistent. Hollow earth? Where does the light come from? And why are there clouds? I loved the original King Kong vs. Godzilla when I was 8 years old and at the time I thought it was the greatest movie ever made

I followed that up with The Warriors. Once again totally preposterous but in this case ultimately entertaining. Clunky dialog and over the top characters and situations. I probably hadn't seen this in at least 10 years which seems like the right amount of time in between viewing of this classic. "Can you dig it SUCKA!"

Came to see if anyone had reviewed Suicide Squad to see if this was just a prank and it was worth to continue on. But it appears I will also be turning it off at the 30min mark.

I unabashedly love The Warriors, another unique spin on The Odyssey. There's just something about the feel of the film.

There was actually a late-generation PS2/Xbox game back in the day, made by Rockstar. It was a true gem. Kinda GTA style with some early free-roam mechanics, but focused as a brawler. You could run around and steal car radios, spray paint tags, and actually play co-op for the entire game. Surprisingly robust all around, was a real blast battling other gangs expanding and defending your turf. The story was actually a prequel leading up to the film, and then you played through the events of the movie.

I watched this right after I finished StartUp and thought it was great!! Like a Zero Effect for this millennium. I don’t know anyone else who had even heard of it!

Let Him Go, Thomas Bezucha, 2020

This is an old fashioned, quiet, meditative, but ultimately blood-soaked period piece about an older couple who wants their grandson back after their son dies and their daughter-in-law later marries a member of a shady clan in North Dakota and disappears with the boy.

Great movie. It's not a masterpiece, but it's as adult as what is mostly a revenge thriller can be.

Diane Lane and Keven Costner are the couple, and man, are they both incredible. Lane gets the starring nod, as it's her motivations that lead them to search after their grandson and try to get his mother to come back with them again. Lesley Manville and Jeffrey Donovan are equally stellar as the heads of the rough and mean Weeboy family, who will not give up the boy, even if he's no real blood of their own.

I have never heard of the writer director before, but he does a marvelous job - compositions, color-grade, framing, everything...just a gorgeous-looking movie, but without calling attention to itself. The rolling hills of Montana and North Dakota have never looked more foreboding or beautiful.

Don't go in expecting anything revelatory, but just know that Let Him Go is a classic story expertly told.

And just one more thing about Diane Lane...how a woman of 55 can still look so gorgeous is astounding. Love to see her get starring roles...and as I mentioned, she's first on the credit cast list...how cool is Kevin Costner, a much bigger star, to have no problem with that? It's her movie, even though he's with her every step of the way. And he's gotta be nearing 70, but he's just as beautiful as Lane lol...these two are so perfect looking, so right for 1960, so weathered yet still so striking, that you watch them thinking, "this is what movie stars are supposed to look like."

Loved this.

Have been watching CNN's History of the Sitcom doc. During a commercial last night, flipping for something else, and found Best In Show.

What a great, fun time. Fred Willard in the old Joe Garagiola role just killed it.

Yea, I have watched all them so far, except last nights. It's fun reminiscing about all the old shows I used to watch.
