Arizona Dreams was just as bonkers as I remembered...it's strangely moving, too. MVP goes to Lili Taylor in what must've seemed like an impossible role. And it's so strange to see ice-queen Faye Dunaway being so crazy and emotional.

But I want to see Vincent Gallo recreate famous movie scenes all day long.

Watched Arizona Dream as well, but on Criterion, oops. What a strange diverse, high quality cast and they all looked great, even Jerry Lewis. Unique, surreal movie where the actors seemed to be improvising dialogue at times and the plot was light. Accordingly some parts of the movie didn't work and some where very good, a mixed bag. See New York city, eskimo Alaska , and Arizona southern desert. Worth a watch especially if sheltering anyway. I'm watching a ton of movies and TV series lately.

Greyhound was solid. It’s about 80 minutes and doesn’t waste a minute. There is little character development but it didn’t bother me. I appreciated the efficiency of the story. It’s an entertaining Summer movie, much better than I expected.

Saturday night had another movie in the cul-de-sac, somehow landed on Quick Change. I'd never seen it; Bill Murray, Geena Davis, Randy Quaid, Jason Robards, how bad can it be?

A few laughs, but mostly not good. The neighbor who brought it up said that "he remembered it being funnier."

On the plus side, next time I believe we'll show a better NYC-based crime film. Goodfellas in the queue.

Ford v. Ferrari Standard hollywood storytelling but still pretty enjoyable. Pretty sure they abused their artistic license here but it doesn't really matter. Bale ok but Damon was great.

They recorded the sounds of those 60s cars perfectly. I almost went a second time just to listen.

Soylent Green is Friggen awesome!

Not sure what to make of hidden gems... I enjoyed A Simple Man MUCH more than this one, but I guess there are lessons in both.

one thing that really bothered me... that dialog suppression and elevated soundtrack was annoying to say the least.

Aguirre, Wrath Of God - Spanish conquistadors travel the amazon looking for El Dorado the city of gold. I liked it, very understated movie, not a lot of action or dialog going on but still engaging. I don't think it's one of the greatest movies ever made as some think, definitely worth a watch though.

Watched One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest (1977) for the first time since I was a teenager last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit, although although I wish I could have watched it again without knowledge of how everything was going to play out. I had forgotten how amusing some of the characters were, lots of great little moments. Shoutout to Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd for making the most of their supporting roles; I haven't looked into it but I don't think either was very well known at the time.

Watched it a few months ago and had pretty much the same reaction. Would say I was a bit disappointed tbh as it is on a bunch of greatest lists and is considered by many to be Herzog's best film. Personally, I'm a huge Werner Herzog fan but have a pretty strong preference for his documentaries versus his non-documentary movies.

I love OFOTCN, I see how that is on best movie lists. It has a lot of great dramatic scenes and funny scenes, lots of good characters.

Great movie and would recommend the book, which is a quick read and told from Chief's perspective in a dream-like manner, where you're often not sure how much is real and how much is hallucination.

Incredible book; even better than the film - which is saying a lot.

Cuckoo’s Nest was one of the first non children’s movie I ever saw. My Dad too k me to see it when I was 12, against the protestations of my Mom lol. But my Dad thought it was important for me to see it.

I was absolutely devastated at the end and McMurty’s fate. It was so unfair. But the then the Chief escapes.

God, I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about it. It is a great, great film.

My son works for a state institution, and one day the battery was dead in my car. I asked him to come after work to give me a jump. He was out in the van with a group of about 14 residents from the institution, so he swung by with the group. God, it looked like the scene in the film where they are on the bus for the fishing trip.

Film quiz: What other film pays homage to Melville's Billy Budd?

Not that there is an automatic correlation between great films and Oscar wins, but OFOTCN is one of only three films in history to sweep the top 5 categories (Picture, Director, Screenplay, Actor, Actress). The other two are It Happened One Night and The Silence of the Lambs.

If we ever have a guilty pleasure (a movie you enjoy despite feeling that it is not generally held in high regard) thread I might vote for the Resident Evil series of 5 films. The contagious T-virus is turning people into masses of very active and very ravenous undead. Our heroine Alice has been given extraordinary fighting skills and hopes to combat the corporation that unleashed the virus and to find a cure. These films run on cable tv regularly and are never dull.

+1 And I think this franchise is a lot more influential than people recognise or are willing to give credit for.

I remember how disappointed I was upon seeing the original RE when it first came out because I had been an early adopter of the original game. I haven't watched that original or subsequent movies since.

Guilty pleasures? Roman Polanski and Woody Allen films... pretty much all of them.
