last night's double feature with GF:

Wings Of Desire
Airplane!

Bet no one has ever watched those two back-to-back before.

She had never seen either, somehow....she loved both. Especially the "sita downa ina your seata" jokes in Airplane!

This morning, she's like, ""Surely you're not serious, don't call me Shirley," just like I was 40 years ago. It's pretty funny.

I love movies and love listening to people talk about them, but listening to The Rewatchables is like listening to a panel of top-40 disk jockeys talk about how cool the new car wash they're touting is.

Watched Right Now, Wrong Then (2015) last night, a Korean film about a brief romantic connection. I won't say more for fear of spoiling but fwiw it's not really the kind of film capable of being spoiled. I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Related and also worth mentioning, but another Korean film, The Handmaiden (2016), which stars the same actress, continues to stand out for me months later as one of the best films I've watched the last few years. Highly, highly recommend that one; if you decide to check it out, go in completely cold and give it at least half an hour.

Pretty much this. Yet I went from "this is ridiculously bad" especially after taking such a liking into Filmspotting for the past few years, to it somehow growing on me. At least a little. Westworld : The Recappables (also on The Ringer) had much more depth.

I only listened to one episode of the podcast Geeks Guide to the Galaxy last week, but it seems promising ; that Devs analysis was solid af

Watching Hamilton(2020) which is nicely filmed recording of the live Broadway musical with its original cast when it was at its height of popularity. I didn't know what to expect. 2hrs 40 min. Haven't finished it yet. I don't want to say a lot about it yet. I do enjoy musicals and have seen some great broadway musicals on the screen and in person but this is one of the only times I felt too old to fully enjoy a highly popular show.

Murder Mystery Adam Sandler plays Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston plays Jennifer Aniston as they attempt to solve the aforementioned murder mystery. This feels like a movie version of comfort food. Instead of putting on an old episode of Frasier, Friends or Mash, put this on instead. You get sitcom level acting and story. That being said, until it falls apart in the end, I was quite comforted and entertained by it and if I have another 90 minutes to kill when the sequel comes out, I will watch that and likely be mildly entertained by it too.

3 out of 5

I thought this was outstanding. I’d never seen the live version but this was a great opportunity to see it. Everyone was amazing and the music is so good. I’m not even a big rap fan.

Was away for a while, the first post I saw was MSchu's a couple pages back about the posters from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Coincidentally, saw at lunch Enrico Morricone had died.

Watched half of Hamilton....it's impressive, but exhausting. And the music is a tad repetitive and too fast for this old guy to understand at times.

Tough crowd when Dom gets called Gramps. I liked it and didn't have trouble following. Still prefer My Fair Lady, though.

I watched for 30 mins or so. Thought it was fine but not sure I get all the hoopla about it. The music is ok but it's far from the greatest thing ever

I’m pretty sure he and I are pretty close in age. I’m late 40s.

It did very little for me. It's clever, I guess. My GF found it exhausting, too, and she's your age!

For podcasts, my favorite overall (film-related or not) is The Important Cinema Club: https://soundcloud.com/the-important-cinema-club

They do a good mix of obscure stuff with popular, and episodes aren't too long.

Read 75% of this and need to go finish some day. Have you read Storming the Magic Kingdom? Takes place right before Disney War, was one of my favorite reads ever.

Hamilton has always been one of my favorite historical characters and founding fathers. Read the outstanding biography by Ron Chernow. Because of that I don't want to see whatever this play is because I am sure it would distort one of my favorite historical eras and players.

From everything I have read it holds up pretty well to actual events. Sure, they took some liberties here and there but overall it is pretty accurate.

I definitely enjoyed it.

However......

I'm just not a fan of the modern day musical where the entire dialogue is set to music. I much prefer the old style where there was a plot and dialogue with songs sprinkled in. I feel like the songs stood on their own a lot better. Other than the song the king sang that had that little da-da-da stuff I can't really think of any song in Hamilton that I would remember. I can remember every song from Oliver or Oklahoma or many of those older musicals.

Of the new style, Hamilton was definitely the best I've seen.

I can see they put a lot of effort into Hamilton(2020) in the writing, dancing , and trying to get story somewhat historically accurate. Closed captions were a big help because the rap lyrics were too fast for me. Making a musical about Hamilton's career is a unique idea. Glad people liked it.
