I haven't banned you yet, Rebel. But you're relentless, and I'm probably the only one who's not annoyed with you. If you can just keep your posts in your own dedicated thread and get into the spirit of things in others, you might stand a chance.

I don't really have a team, but was sort of hoping that this might be the Padres's year to get by the Dodgers. Then Tatis made my bozo list.

It's amazing (not really) what a few days and nights spent with family and close friends will do for your spirits.

Seeing how Nazis like that killed my uncle in WWII, I'm gonna disagree. You can have it.

Now In the Line of Fire, that's a good one.

About to enter my 30th year of teaching (except for nearly four years as a dean when I didn't teach at all) and looking forward to it.

I've been fortunate since I never quite envisioned I'd have a "career." I've also been lucky because there are hundreds of people with an MA in English. The greatest pleasure, though, has been watching students succeed at the community college level and then go on to better things. One of my former students even joined the college last year, a few have become teachers themselves, and even those who didn't quite make it through have usually tried.

I've also formed some good relationships with colleagues, and believe five or six have become good friends.

Nice. Is teaching about deftly communicating concepts ?

I think it's about bringing about the best in students and helping them to recognize their talents. It also helps to convince them that they can learn to persevere and that no one is "naturally gifted."

It does help to communicate concepts deftly, especially in the subject our students fear most--math.
