Oh I just came across that last night and almost posted it. IMO it's just ok until the Riker over-the-chair maneuvers, then it gets awesome.*

*I reserve the right to re-critique upon rewatch when I'm sober (which I was when I watched it but not right now)

It's odd that Data has never seemed interested in the romantic side of human behavior despite being so fascinated with other aspects of human behavior. He puts in a halfhearted effort to try a relationship out as a side experiment, but it's clear that he's mostly just humoring his co-worker. I was expecting some kind of dramatic breakup at the end but things mostly just casually fizzle out.

I give it a C+. Okay as a chill-out episode.
This episode has one of my favorite Data lines: "<the girl> just gave me a passionate kiss in the torpedo bay"

In First Contact when the Borg Queen asks Data how long it's been since he had sex, the time he gives I believe points back to this episode.

Heh, looks like it may have been Yar after all.

I do like the one scene where Data talks to Troi about dating a co-worker on the rebound and Troi is all like "mmmm maybe not a good idea" but then he asks Riker and Riker gives him a big rikersmile.gif

I really need to see the episode where Bev Crusher does it with a space ghost

that episode is terrible. Second lowest rated episode on IMDB. And really the absolute lowest as the worst episode, shades of grey, is a clip show and not a real episode.

I like Discovery so far. Really looking forward to the next episode. Cool setting on the top secret war science ship, Saru is a cool first officer.

I'm not really feeling STD as it's become affectionately known among certain fans.

I watched Ep.3 on Monday, and I'm struggling to remember what happened at the end - something about some bio-warp propulsion system? anyway, although it was an improvement on the pilot, it was still ST:E levels of dullness.

Wonder how long it will be before they shoehorn the Borg in?

ST TNG S5E01 Redemption Part 2

Weaker brethren of the first part, with a lot of the tension dissipated because it focussed on a little too many elements. The subplot of Data being a captain and dealing with hostility really needs its own episode, and the little we were given was good, but very underdeveloped and unresolved.

The Klingon stuff got resolved too pat, and there could have been less time spent showing Klingons headbutting each other and fighting, and more intrigue, maybe.

And the Commander Sela business leaves some interesting future-stuff to resolve, but weakens the structure and internal integrity of this episode.

I liked it, but it could have been a lot better.

7/10

imo, the saga of Worf and the House of Duras is one of the crown jewels in the ST franchise. You have to appreciate that this was long before The Sopranos and the modern era of multi-episode story arcs in TV shows. TNG managed to pull off a highly ambitious 4-5 episode space opera of dishonor and redemption. I don't think many other shows were doing that kind of thing.

This is Star Trek for real Star Trek fans: it assumes you've been following the show for the past season and are caught up with Worf's and the internal politics of the House of Duras.

Also really liked seeing Denise Crosby being brought back and given a decent role.

Dallas, Hill Street Blues, and L.A. Law, to name a few off the top of my head.

Cranberry makes a good point. I found it riveting from beginning to end with every developing twist and turn, and Michael Dorn was able to highlight everything it meant to be a Klingon. I thought as Star Trek went on though they relied too much on Worf being the only true Klingon left in the Empire theme, which is why he's in Star Fleet, which you know, seems stupidly hypocritical. But, the Klingon's themselves were perhaps the most hypocritical persons imaginable when it came to their views on honor and dishonor. It seems that to be a true Klingon, one worthy to rule the Klingon Empire, it is entirely necessary to be both honorable and dishonorable at the same time. Though it does make the audience reflect on how purity in movements ultimately undermines the movement. Klingon's were always their own worst enemy prone to civil war. Put it this way, if I were I Klingon, I'd think it'd be a good day to die too!

I've really been enjoying The Orville. Definitely taps into a lot of the "what if" sci-fi storytelling that made TOS fun, while also throwing in lots of dick jokes.

ST TNG S5E02 Darmok

A little more harder scifi than is usual in Star Trek, involving how you communicate with a race that communicates only by example and citing examples of deeds from its own mythology. Rather well written and impressive in what it's trying to tackle, and it acquits itself well.

And a young Ashley Judd pops up briefly.
