Despite being a massive fan at the time, I think that TNG has aged really, really badly. I find them to be almost embarassingly unwatchable now. The original series has stood the test of time way better imo
Season 1-3 are pretty horrible but with season 4 starting with the resolution of the locutus story line, season 4 has been much better.

I touched on this earlier(or the other thread)... I think what you are seeing is the Roddenberry effect. after he passed away, the next gen series really took off in my humble O. Prior to his death, I think TNG was suffering quite a bit due to his oversight. Sure he was brilliant in the original series... later on, he seemed to loose a little something.
Some of my thoughts, mostly in reply to posts so far...
Taste of Armageddon was a great TOS episode, for the reasons stated.
Death Wish was a great VOY episode, with a morality issue that is still present today.
Overall I rank VOY last, though it had many great episodes. I never gave it much thought, but it was likely due to my not being able to invest in Janeway, same as others here. It did also suffer from Trek fatigue, which is why there was a Trek hiatus for several years.
TNG seasons 1 & 2 were mostly unwatchable, outside of a few episodes. It really picked up with season 3 (I disagree with the poster that 3 was also bad). The same could be said for DS9 and VOY. I think these shows just take a while to get comfortable with themselves before the characters stop being so wooden and develop chemistry, which also leads to improved storylines.
Oh, and yes S4 of ENT was pretty good, had several 2-3 episode story arcs that worked well. Went out too early, but on a high note IMO (sans the series finale... ugh).
After finishing re-watching the first season of ST:TOS, it's remarkable how well the show hit its stride right out the gate. Lots of great Trek episodes in Season 1. The Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic is there even in the first few episodes.
