I vote this one as ho-hum and maybe even terrible. The makeup effects are surprisingly good, but the pacing is just so slow. We've got a disease that rapidly ages people, so let's waste everyone's time with a lengthy court martial procedure. Then there are several long scenes of old people being old and needlessly re-establishing Kirk's senility. Running the corbomite play from an earlier episode over again just seems lazy.

Misc: Chekov seems to be familiar with the corbomite maneuver. Which is odd, because he wasn't around in season one.

I agree, will demote to hohum.

The Corbomite bluff must be the stuff of legend on the Enterprise. It's probably Academy syllabus.

I never watched this show but I used to like the TNG intro. I think it would come on after Saturday Night Live or something in the early '90s and it was a warm welcome to late night.

Dude, try and watch City on the Edge of Forever. Every version of Star Trek is up on Netflix.

TNG had a good intro. This is probably heretical, but I always thought Voyager had the best intro/theme music of any ST franchise.

I decided to watch an episode a day of TNG. So far I am about 15 episodes in. A lot of them have been pretty bad, but a few have been quite good. I have greatly enjoyed the two episodes involving Q and two episodes involving the Ferengi. The one episode with Data's "brother" was also nice. I think after I go through all of TNG I'll try the original series and then I'll go onto Deep Space 9.

Season 1 of TNG is easily the worst season of Star Trek ever. Please, please, please don't judge the franchise based on that.

I'd suggest mixing it up by watching some of the original series that have been rated "classics" ITT before you watch all of TNG.

Obsession SEASON 2 EPISODE 13

Wiki Entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessi...iginal_Series)

This should have been really great - Kirk as Ahab - but I just couldn't really engage with it. The dialogue of the other characters felt too generic and like someone who didn't really know the characters had to write for them with only the briefest of briefings about them.

I think, however, it may have been I just wasn't in the mood for this one, not sure.

Lots of redshirts died, 5 I think (I kind of lost count)

Wolf In the Fold SEASON 2 EPISODE 14

Wiki Entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_in_the_Fold

This episode surprised me, and I remember it as pretty cheesy and eye-rolling, and was surprised how entertaining I found it. There were some goofy parts (Scotty keeps getting left alone with women even though he appears to have stabbed at least one to death, and then the woman gets stabbed to death!), I actually found it pretty great. Even the Jack The Ripper thing, which should have felt stupid, worked.

There was a few things I liked. The being that could possess others, and lived on terror was a very interesting and fresh (for this Star Trek run) idea, and reminded me of other works that use this premise..Stephen King MUST have seen this and had the seeds of Pennywise planted in his brain, and more recently Monsters Inc. The displaced, distorted voice of the being through the ship reminded me of the Exorcist, of all things!

I liked it, but I think maybe I just watched it in the perfect mood to appreciate it.

I've seen all the Star Trek movies (except the first one) and in college I watched many episodes of TNG, so don't worry I won't judge Star Trek from just one season.

From the classics, I watched "Space Seed". I really wanted to see it after I watched the latest Star Trek reboot. I also (of course) watched Wrath of Khan again (at that time).

The episode I am most interested in watching from TOS is the one written by Harlan Ellison. I see diebitter listed it among the classics (ranked second it seems), but I think I'll just go in order after watching TNG in order. I am in no rush.

I fully acknowledge City on the Edge of Forever is almost certainly the best TOS episode, and probably the best Star Trek-Any Series episode, but I personally could watch Amok Time once a day.

I am fully into the last season now... the first disk was less than stellar. the writing has really dropped going into this last season, but as I look forward to some of the episodes to come, I see some good ones that remain.

personally, I am not sure I agree with "city on the edge of forever" being the best TOS episode... and I definitely do not agree that it is the best ST episode. That honor goes to "Death Wish" from Voyager, the only episode of voyager that I actually enjoyed.

Death Wish was a really good episode, probably top 10 Voyager for me, but I can't in the least bit agree with it being #1 of all series.

I think the social implications of asking the questions that episode asked were far greater than the vast majority of all other episodes in any of the series. The respect the topic was given and it weighted very heavily in my mind and on my emotions

I can see for many many social structures that the idea of self termination is not only distasteful but absurd... it is not for me.

I also fully appreciate that many folks have a more superficial idea of what is entertaining... more action is better, more science fictional elements are better, and so on and so forth. That is my personal favorite episode by a wide margin... and I hate ST voyager

Falling behind, gonna shotgun a few episodes.

Obsession stars off with three redshirts on an alien planet... GEE I WONDER WHATS GONNA HAPPEN.

This episode relies entirely on the strength of Shatner's acting ability as James Kirk struggles to come to closure with his past mistakes. Kirk gets really emo and there's a lot of dodgy acting and lecturing from Spock and McCoy and... yeah, I think it's pretty much a terrible episode.

Really liked Wolf in the Fold quite a lot. Scotty has been a more or less minor character in the series so far, so it's good to see him in a more prominent role. Frankly, I thought Doohan was convincing in this role. This one's a sort of murder mystery with strained loyalties between Kirk/Scotty that ends in a sci-fi twist involving a Jack the Ripper premise that would sound silly if I explained it here, but it somehow works out well on screen.

We get a great moment where intoxicated Takei unwinds and goes full Takei. We get to hear "He's dead, Jim!" for what I think is an unprecedented three times in one episode. And I love the geeky-cool ending of Spock trapping the alien by telling the computer to calculate the last digit of pi. Great sci-fi stuff.

I vote very good episode; almost a classic but not quite.

I think you're saying something different. I think you're confusing "GOAT" with "personal favorite." Two different concepts.

By example, I stand by my statement that "City on the Edge of Forever" is the GOAT episode of the franchise, even though it isn't my personal favorite. That would be "Tapestry", which speaks to my life experience and world view the way "Death Wish" speaks to yours.

But when I choose what I think is the GOAT episode, I'm being objective and not making it all about me. "City..." combines great Trek concept, SciFi Concepts and classic drama in such a way that it appeals to a wide variety of viewers.

The Trouble With Tribbles SEASON 2 EPISODE 15

Wiki Entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trouble_with_Tribbles

Very very fun episode with Kirk getting snotty with a petty official, the guy who was the Squire of Gothos turning up as a Klingon, Chekov Russia-trolling like a Cossack, and Scotty happily punching out Klingons. And Tribbles. Lots of tribbles.

There's a fantastic DS9 episode that riffs on this episode called 'Trials and Tribbleations'. Try and watch it!
