So rate them in your own way, we can talk.

Having two bins, "Classics" and "Decent" also seems an odd choice.

Mudd's Women is the only one so far that's terrible, but the pretense of Harvey Mudd upgrades it to decent status. No idea why ppl are hating on the other episodes.

I've been too busy lately to keep up, but yeah, Space Seed is def a classic episode. The girl is a hottie, too. I'd give her my space seed.

^^ heh

Last night I watched Silicon Avatar. I forgot how much I liked that episode - how it weighs the moral conflict of a "live and let live" ideology, and the differing viewpoints between personally affected people and unbiased ones.

I still love Data's reaction when he realizes he's being accused of conspiring with the Crystaline Entity. The look in his eyes looks like his neural net is short-circuiting.

Come on board!

In other news, "Sir, there is a multi-legged creature crawling on your shoulder." is an elite, yet under-appreciated ST quotable.

A Taste of Armaggedon SEASON 1, EPISODE 23

Wiki Entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Taste_of_Armageddon

Getting tired of saying it, but another classic allegorical/moral conundrum story from ST. I really like the setup on this, and some of the writing is superb - especially Spock, I think. I also noted how the guards' unforms look an awful lot like the uniforms of Thunderbirds, that came out 2 years before this (but I have no idea how well known Thunderbirds was known in America at the time - it was a UK show)

Taste of Armageddon was one of my favorites as a kid, and I still love it. Great, "what if?" sci-fi premise used to explore human nature, that's what good classic sci-fi is all about. Also, Scotty gets to be a badass in this episode, and that's always fun. The only real downside is Spock having weird telepathic powers that I don't think he has in any other episode. That just seemed like gimmicky writing.

There are also some fantastic lines in this episode:

"Sir, there's a multi-legged creature crawling on your shoulder."

"Diplomats! The best diplomat I know is a fully activated phaser bank!"

"The haggis is in the fire for sure."

"What are you doing, Mister Spock?"
"Practicing a peculiar variety of diplomacy, sir."

Misc:

The command structure of the Federation always confuses me. Since when do diplomats give orders to ship captains?

You're well aware that his mission there gives him the power of command.

Perhaps, but no one pulls rank on Scotty when he's in the captain's chair and the haggis is, so to speak, in the fire.

I've always wondered whether "General order 24" was supposed to be a real StarFleet reg or a Kirk bluff.

Captains ALWAYS answer to politicians, that's the way it's always been unless you are living in a military dictatorship.

That has been the basis for the argument that governmental bodies to not genrally have the inclination for strategic thought and planting.

--------------------------

So far I am only up to Miri in my chronological viewing of the series.

Chain of command though. Also, a Captain is always in charge of his ship unless removed.

I was doing 2 a week, but I will slow down to one each Monday, let me know when you catch up. I want to get some episodes of Sleepy Hollow and Arrow under my belt anyway.

TOS is being run on the retro channel here and it looks like they've enhanced the space graphics ala what Lucas did with Star Wars. Anyone else seen this?

Yes, I imagine its the same version that is on Netflix. I don't like it personally, not a big deal either way but the new graphics just look out of place to me. On an absolute scale they're pretty shoddy anyways so it was an unneccesary production at best.
