After a couple sunny days in the 80's it is back in the 40's and raining here in Chicago. We have had no real spring weather yet and will likely go straight to summer eventually.

I was born in the west; I planned it that way. Been here ever since. Never had to look back but yes - better weather, better people, better and more varied land and landscapes, oodles of opportunities etc. Go West young man!

Same location as the old Poodle Dog Lounge. I was playing 3-ball with a police detective there in the 70s when his pistol fell out of his waistband and fired. It was some little auto that had the grip safety taped down. I still run into him every once in awhile, but he never looks me in the eye.

Looks like they've really cleaned up the place.

How the **** do flies know you are about to swat them? You can be 1 inch above them, they chill, then once you swat, boom, they fly away.

I think it's this kind of principle at work:

They have good eyes for seeing things.

Displacement of air which causing a change in air pressure. Flies have very sensitive body hairs and appendages (wings etc). I just thought of this and I think it is a very good explanation. May even be somewhat true.

Dazed and Confused is filmed at bar that later changed it's name into a lesser known film.

What if that little air displacement is just enough to give them the boost to get out of the way, or my eyes aren't quick enough to differentiate between them flying and simply floated off on a puff of air? Half of me is convinced flies are light enough for this, but the other half is looking at these Texas-sized critters and thinking no way.

It's funny that to me, as an American, British media seems so much more accurate and balanced than US media regardless of how true that is. I know the UK has some rags, but the BBC ruined me.

back to flies. they also have what is called compound eyes that basically give them thousands of eyes. so they see better than about all things in this world.
you see.

Compared to what? The bubonic plague?

It's mentionable in most circles, I think. Certainly good enough for round here.

There's a multimillion-dollar startup lurking in this idea: aerodynamic flyswatters.

Instead of moving air, the swatter would be made of tiny airfoils, so the swatter would cut through the air rather than displace it.

If the idea doesn't work on flyswatters, try it on jet fighters.

You're welcome.

Actually flyswatters are highly effective as opposed to the hand slap. I have to expect the physics of the flyswatter make it several multiples faster.

Swats happening! I had some in my kitchen recently, was using a little yellow pages and got pretty good at it. Anticipation helps, if you swing along their escape routes. They love those wet coffee grounds.

I think the easiest fly WMD is a can of open beer.

way do they call your zipper a fly.

i made a comment in this thread recently about parks in Vegas and the pervs you may come across...i misspoke for some percentage of suspicious behavior:

pokemon go

might be worth your while to check out one of the websites that track the locations of these crazy things...

"Fly" does not refer to the button, specifically. "Fly" refers to the flap of material covering the opening or fastening of a garment. The term was originally used in England to refer to the flap on a tent (which flaps or flies when the wind blows if not tied down).

the flap on my zipper does not blow in the wind.
