This thread will be devoted to well known (or not) used in films. I would, though, like to restrict it to songs performed by the characters in the films rather than simply songs used on the soundtrack. Okay to use song lip-synched by characters or animated films with characters singing. So, for example, here's one of my favorite instances from one of my favorite films from a couple years ago.
First thought that popped into my head on seeing thread title was Bruce Dern walking into the ocean at the last of Coming Home while Tim Buckley's Once I Was played. I absolutely hate the politics of this movie now, looking back, but I can still love that music with that scene.
Lol upon actually reading the original post, I seemed to have broken the rules, oh well.
and of course who can not love the soggy bottom boys?
this is of course the most famous of the songs in the film, but man I love all the songs so much, and I'm hard pressed to think of a movie with a better soundtrack, altho there are many that come close.
this is another film with an amazing soundtrack, man the coens get everything right, and this particular song happens to be one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar.
ok here's a film with a great soundtrack (how good is washboard lisa???) that's not by the coens.
I love this song so much (it's funny I'm realizing that these are all songs I learned to play on guitar some specifically after seeing/hearing them in these films)
and a great version of the song in its entirety (this is a very old traditional song so there are tons of great covers)
btw marien is ****ing awesome you should check him out.

this song was performed in the film (pitch perfect) but I'm posting this version cuz it's better quality and complete but I think it's ok cuz it's still being performed by anna kendrick
