going to gore mountain tonight to ski sun/mon. never heard of this place. anybody been?

the trail map looks cool (blacks/doubles have their own lift up top so that can be done again and again). but i'm not sure how i got roped into driving 4.5 hours to upstate ny instead of 5hrs to killington. oh well, group looks fun (not excellent skiers though. one girl can hold her own and keep up).

Last two weeks has been crazy, done a couple backcountry trips and 3-4 days/week at my local skiresort with both day and evening shredding. Mostly awesome condition with fresh powder.

Some pics..

Kirketaket, Norway (4 721 ft)
February 11, 2011

Almost there after a 1 hr drive from where I live.

Me walking up the first part.

Let's turn the camera around and see where I'm heading. (Also, hi thurr moon!)

Sunny and windy.

So close, yet so far away..

Arrived at the top and there is a hang over a huge cliff. A guy walked out there last year, the hang seperated and he fell to his death.

Unreal good conditions. A really thin layer that was wind packed with powder underneath. It was like shredding fresh powder.

Unfortunaly I failed really hard on the Contour HD cam as I never have used it before and slided the record button @ top on....w/o pressing the power on button. Tilted, yo.

Næremstinden, Norway (3 641 ft)
February 18, 2011

Took a picture of it a week ago (from my house).

Unfortunately it started to snow yesterday, but hiked up anyways.

Chillin' at the top.

This run I succesfully recorded and snow conditions was PERFECT, but the flat light sucked and I ended up being kinda reserved since I've never shredded there before and it gets kinda sketchy when I go down 30-40 mph without knowing the terrain well enough + flat light making me basically blind to bumps and what not. I was not disappoint and it might be the best terrain I've ever shred.

Going up tomorrow when it's sunny so I'll record that one as well and take some better pictures. We plan on building a jump also so hopefully we get some McFaceplants in. Will try to edit and upload clips ASAP.

****** day today....I drove 2 hours to Mount Snow and forked down my $79 for my ticket. Snow was awful. Mostly ice with a weak inch of man made snow over the top. It was windy and cold as hell. Then, they had to shut down the summit and the two main lifts up to the top because of the wind. So that left the option of only using the bottom portion of the mountain (with ****** conditions), and to do so you had to use basically 2 lifts that were trying to accommodate everyone (on a holiday weekend). So I decide to get a rain check for another day cuz nothing is good about this situation. Too bad the line for guest services was an hour and a half. All told, I was there for 2 hours, all of which was a giant cluster ****. On the way home I set my gps to get me to boston market for lunch. When I arrived it was actually a D'angelo

cliffs: drove to Vermont and back to have a meal at Boston Market that actually turned out to be D'angelo.

FML.

figured i'd just post this.

it's dale begg-smith's 2006 gold medal performance in freestyle moguls. probably the best singular performance i've ever seen. his 2nd section is absolutely flawless starting with the landing of the backflip iron cross right on the fall line as if he did a 6 inch jump on his skis lol. i can't see a single even minuscule error in that section.

Hiking for turns is one of my favorite things in snowboarding. It's free, great exercise, conditions that you'll never get at a resort (unless you wanna compete with hundreds of people during a very short time slot), its only you and you're friends, you can take the dog, and above all FACESHOTS!

Pure Elation in the backcountry for me

Here's a short vid...

Man, that **** looks so fun. I'm too much of a pussy to try anything off ramps and ****. Too many injuries.

I did however get out to Whistler a couple weeks ago and had the time of my life. After toiling in Ontario for 10+ years I finally had a big mountain experience and it didn't let me down.

Even talked myself into going down the Couloir Extreme. Didn't go too smoothly but I made it down alive and enjoyed the snow in the lower part of the run.

Has anyone been to Taos lately? I'm thinking of driving down from Denver. What's the skiing like there? Worth the drive? FWIW, I'm an advanced intermediate skier and can ski almost anything short of steep moguls. Thanks...

....just got some Oakley Splice goggles with the emerald iridium lens as a gift. They seem pretty sick so far, but that's after limited use. Anybody else use the splice? The lens makes things really sharp and the tint is pretty mellow.
