haha.. I meant is as a good thing. I didn't think of how it could be construed as bad in an icey sense when i wrote it.

Basically.. there was a little powder. Only got icey late in the day on the popular runs.. but it was a mostly man-made snow cover so it the conditions weren't great.

Hey all,

I'm heading to aspen/snowmass for the first time on Dec 31st to meet up with my girlfriend and her family. Was looking at lift tickets, and couldn't believe how expensive it was. Does anyone know where I can find discounts of some sort? Or is there some mountain near aspen/snowmass which has great skiing at a lower cost?

Any ideas for ways to ski affordably in aspen/snowmass area would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Grant

Just a little heads up for the thread, We here in Jackson Hole are off to a rough start. We've gotten the least amount of snow by now since I moved here 10 years ago. Now that I found a little home away from home in the 2p2 world I'll be posting some updates and pics for you all when things get going.

peace

Thanks nevermovingup. I went to Jackson Hole last winter for the first time (posted a short TR and some pics in this thread) and I'd def like to go back sometime, hopefully during/right after a big storm. Keep us updated and let us know when a big system is heading your way!

Skied the Alta Chutes later that day though. =)
Na I didn't drop in, wanted to, but conditions didn't seem favorable for a first time attempt. Plus I wasn't really sure how to approach it. Would've been nice to see someone else give it a go that knew what they were doing, as I would've gotten a good idea of the speed/line coming out of that initial drop. I've hit a few of the Palisades lines at Squaw, which appears similar in steepness and technical difficulty. I'd def like to go back and give it a go though, Corbet's is now on my official "Hit List".

where has this thread been all my life lol.

lots of boarders it seems and not too many skiers, especially those who love the bumps. seems everybody has powder skis and goes out west and i'm left alone out here in the east w/ killington and sugarbush. i have no clue where my park city, deer valley, alta, snowbird, and austria trip pictures are so some meh ones from sugarbush will have to do:

my ex has on her camera a really good video of me skiing bumps but, well, she's my ex so i dont currently have access to it lol.

any mogul skiers out there?? pics/videos?

anybody live here on the east coast? one reason i have like no pics is that i either went by myself to killington or w/ my ex gf (who took lessons/did greens) so nobody to take pics with. i'd love to meet up w/ some great skiers though i'mi now officially the eff outta shape and in no way shape or form prepared for a season. i'm hopeful to get in MAYBE 3-5 days this year :-(.

college and until 2006 i got in >20 and that was a ton for me. so jealous of folks who live on mountains and/or get >50-75 days in a year...

Going to Hemsedal tomorrow. Hear the conditions are superb so I might post a TR and some pics later. For now I thought I'd share this with you (might be old for some). Just aired on Norwegian TV and I found it such an inspiration before going tomorrow.

The initial drop and pitch below it looked icy, hence the "conditions didn't seem favorable for a first time attempt" comment, but the stuff below looked good. When I got back home after that trip I looked up some videos online and it this is what I found. Some good stuff.

Looking to get a new board.
I just mostly ride the park at my "home mountain" as I am in the midwest and we don't really have any mountains to just freeride on but I enjoy freeriding when I go out west (usually once a year for a week or so) so I guess I am looking for a more neutral board (geared neither entirely for freestyle riding nor just for freeriding or racing). I am cheap and not really wanting to spend a whole lot on a new board right now. I haven't purchased a new board for about 4 years now and currently am riding a 2004 Forum Bjorn Leines Pro Model 152. Prior to this board I had gone about 3 straight years buying a new board when I was in high school and was working as a snowboard instructor and got my equipment cheap. As far as size I am mainly looking for something between 152-156 in length and non-wide. I have been out of the loop in advances in equipment and such the last few years as I have been busy with school and stuff but would appreciate any suggestions on snowboards. It seems like alot of guys are pretty up to date with snowboard equipment. Also, I am mainly looking at last year's models due to the fact that they are so marked down. Thanks.

sooo jealous of those by large mountains.

the only places in Wis/Upper mich are ridiculously small. granite peak (one of the better maintained mountains) thinks they can charge $58 for a one-day pass for 700' of vertical, which is probably more like 600'. I hate the midwest.

Im about to finish up my last day in steamboat springs, col tmrw. I only get to make it out once a year but I love it here. It only snowed 2-3 times so most of the days were icy but I dont care cause I finally figured out how to butter on my snowboard. Such a fun trick to do once you figure it out.

I picked up a 2009 Burton Custom X for 1/2 price from http://www.sierrasnowboard.com/

Buying last year's stuff online is the nuts.

I am teh suck at snowboarding. Went 2-3 times last year and first time this year. Can heel and toe (only my left side!) stop and can move down greens/blues without falling, but I look pretty crappy to anyone watching I'm sure.

I'm fine with it except I promised my girlfriend to go boarding in 3 weeks in Killington for a couple days, and I'd rather not look so terrible. Is it possible to learn really fast if I go once a week for the next 3 weeks? At least enough to carve and not look so bad?

I was up at Breckenridge on Saturday, best snow I've had all year, snowed most of the day, cold as hell w/ the wind, and traffic from Breck to Denver took us about 4 1/2 hours, well worth it though. Looking forward to a trip to Wolf Creek in February, never been but can't wait, I hope they get pounded w/ snow,

Wolf Creek Ski Report:

Midway Base Depth: 71 Inches
Storm Total:
Snowfall YTD: 189 inches

VS Vail

SNOW CONDITIONS

Just started boarding 2 months ago and I've already been out about 15 times, I'm having an absolute blast. I'm only doing greens, blues, and the occasional single diamond, but so far Vail>>>>>>>>>>Keystone>>>Breck from what I've seen.

Had so much fun at Vail on 1/2, I wish I had bought the Epic Pass instead of Colorado, but I will still get 10 days out there (or Beaver Creek).

Sorry about not updating about skiing in JH. These are some classic pics of Corbet's! It's always icy at the entrance but it opens wide and softens up below and if you biff it you won't hit anything so all is good.

I skied for the first time this year yesterday (I've had a very slow recovery from summer shoulder surgery). I hiked up Mt. Glory via the top of Teton pass and got a good run in before heading to work. I only get a 10 pass at the resort and hit the best days there and spend the rest of my time in the back country. I promise to take my camear next time out.

The resort is having a tough beginning and a lot of the mountain is still closed. This happened this morning:
