Jason and Marie in Jasons Paris apartment. Jason invites Marie up to his apartment to freshen up after the long drive. After only a few minutes, Jason gets a sense of fear and reality that his situation is not just about a memory loss. Not sure if its just paranoia or justified concern, Jason tries not to alarm his innocent female guest who has befriended him.
All in a moment, an assassin tarzans thru a balcony window with his automatic rifle spewing bullets into the room. This initiates a close contact fight to the death with Jason prevailing when the assassin realizes he has lost and ultimately kills himself by voluntarily leaping to his death from the apt balcony.
This is the scene that sets the tone for the plot of the movie and of the series.
The apartment scene ends with Jason in his alternate self mode leading the traumatized Marie out of the chaos and mayhem onto the street where a crowd has gathered and sirens are approaching.
As a sidenote, this is also the beginning of a new era of real life tough guys in the movies with trained fighting and survival skills. This literally killed off Pierce Brosnan as 007 in Die Another Day at the box office as well as his lead role. The 007 super spy franchise lost its credibility with the public.
This movie really got in my head when I saw it on HBO one night back in 98 or 99. I thought "hey cool, i'll smoke a bowl and watch this cool sci-fi movie" Yeah right, this movie f**ked me up for a few weeks. Especially this scene. I was like "What the f**k did I just see?!" Watching the movie now, it's almost laughable, but back then it was the scariest movie I ever saw.
