El D -- But where do you rank a sober visit and a non-sober visit to Tacqueria Cancun on that list?

There was a place at 26th and Mission called [something] II. It had the best chicken tacos I've ever had. Is that still around?

Card,

Drunk cancun is right up there w drunk farolito, way high. And always crazier late night crowd at cancun.

Sober cancun is fine.

Head down to the Mission and try some of these. La Tacqueria is a classic.

Thanks for the recs I never made it down there though, had too tight of a schedule. 1pm Fri-10am Sun. I did other stuff too but, here is a poorly written TR:

For restaurants on Friday I hit Amber Indian lunch buffet(solid), Harris' Steak, I think(good $150& drinks). Saturday hit up Molinari's for a really good sandwich and ate it in Washington square park. Went to some tourist place on Fisherman's Wharf for a fish n chips dinner.

Hit up some bars in Financial District Friday afternoon which was great, then other areas at night. Stayed at JW Marriott which was nice, but probably not as nice as it should have been.

I'll be back there in a couple months to do the Mission stuff.

Has anyone been to the Kubrick exhibition at the Jewish museum? I wanted to stop in last time I was in town but didn't have time.

Agree about the JW, it's nice but a step below JWs I've stayed at in other cities, and not worth what they usually charge relative to other Marriott in that area.

Couple of new places I tried on my last trip:

Limon (previously mentioned ITT, it met expectations, would go again)

Beacon (standard Nth wave coffee, oatmeal was extremely good)

Little Skillet (excellent fried chicken and collard greens, was not expecting this)

Oh, and a cow-orker was staying at the Diva (lol), we ate at the mexican place in the lobby, it was ... OK. Margarita was passable, guac was fine, carnitas were fine. I can't remember the name of it so that should be all the review necessary.

Pvn,

Little skillet is an offshoot of the restaurant Farmer Brown http://www.farmerbrownsf.com

If you're a big eater and love fried chicken, that's a great brunch.

What's the parking situation in SF? Specifically we are staying at Marriott Fishermans Wharf for a few days then driving to Yellowstone. I'm thinking I would want to rent a car the night before so I can get on the road about 4 am. Will I be able to find street parking at night or will I need to pay the $56 to park at hotel, in which case I'm probably better off unerring to airport for a car at 3 am.

There are car rental spots in the city - something has to be open that early. Another option is getaround (app where you can take someone's car). If you do get a car there are garages in the wharf you can park in overnight for a decent rate which will be muchhhhh better than hotel rate. I don't know what it is, $1/hr from 10pm til 6am or something?

But in general you don't need a car IN the city - parking sucks, W
windows get smashed, and there are dozens of transportation options.

there are a ton of rental agencies around union square, but I don't know that any would be open that early. The area around the Marriott fishermans wharf really isn't that congested, you may be able to street park off of Columbus, but there are tons of parking garages you can find that will be cheaper than the hotel, like previous poster said.

I like that hotel fwiw, easy walk to the embarcadero, lombard street (ok, it's not really an "easy" walk up to lombard street, it's just relatively close though 100% straight uphill), etc, and it's (mostly) downhill to downtown/union square, though it's a bit more of a hike.

The hotel itself is kind of weird, it's triangle-shaped and I think it's actually two old buildings that were welded together, there are places where the floor has a weird incline, etc. The lobby is a little claustrophobic and there aren't really any views, but the service is good. There's also no concierge lounge, which bugs some marriott elites, but whatever.

Haven't been, but I subscribe to Adam Savage's Tested channel on youtube and they've done a couple of features about it (including Adam making the hedge maze from The Shining which is now on display) that made it look really interesting and most likely worth seeing imo.

I'm going to have a weekend (3 nights) in SF later this month, staying with friends in Twin Peaks

How is Octavia restaurant? We weren't able to get a res at State Bird

Any good thrift store suggestions?

I'm gonna let them handle the other stuff like bars and touristy stuff and we're going to play golf at SF Harding on one of the mornings

I thought Octavia was excellent. Preferred it versus State Bird

Had a good time at Octavia. We're really big fans of Frances so were excited to try another restaurant in the Frances group. The restaurant layout seems very similar, if not a bit more open and less cozy. Below are my thoughts on what we ate - I enjoyed the meal and do not mean to sound snobbish in any way.

Pics: http://imgur.com/a/FcIfA

Bread - House made, served steaming hot. Nice texture, intense oatmeal/cereal flavors with a slight sour note. Lacking salt.

Squid Ink Noodles - served chilled, well salted, interesting texturally, mild lemony flavor was a nice compliment.

Burrata - Interesting presentation on corn pudding w/ browned corn silk and avocado. Toughest skin I've ever seen on a burrata, was tough to cut with a butter knife. Also lacking salt, avocado seemed unnecessary as it didn't add any flavor or texture component. Corn silk was interesting, corn pudding was very tasty.

Chicken Confit - This dish was perfect for me. Tender, juicy, paper thin but crisp skin, hash below was delicious.

Salmon - Had after the chicken so this was a disappointment. Fish itself was cooked perfectly throughout, even on the tapered end, but lacked flavor. Veggies included similarly lacked flavor, especially zucchini. Figs seemed out of place overwhelmed by the tomatoes. Tomatoes were delicious and the leaves of basil on the plate were incredibly flavorful. Would have eaten the tomatoes and basil as an appetizer alone.

Eton Mess "rocky road" - Delicious desert. Not typically a meringue fan but this chocolate meringue was perfect in texture and flavor. Supposedly the staff favorite dessert.

Angel Food Cake (to go) - Slices of angel food pan fried on one side "like french toast" served with creme fraiche ice cream and fresh fruit. Feels like a 'lighter' dessert and was also really good. Sorry, no pics

Verdict: I found almost everything to be lacking salt which surprised me, but there were nice flakes on the table so it wasn't a big deal to salt each bite. Disappointed by the salmon but happy with the other dishes. Probably would not recommend the burrata or salmon, and next time I'd try the vegetarian dish as the veggie dish at Frances is always phenomenal. Presentation was great, except on the burrata where the pudding had started to break. Service was excellent, chicken was perfect, desserts were delicious. I'd recommend a visit if you're nearby and can get a reservation, same with Frances.

7.5/10

Didn't do a thread search for Sushi Restaurants so I'll just ask which of the following is the best or worth going to in the San Fran area, the link below lists 9 restaurants. If anyone has others to suggest please do so. I may be blowing through the area in a month or less and want to explore the best sushi in town. The top three to visit would be awesome. Thanks.

first thing you should do is completely ignore that list.
how the **** can you ****ing try and pass yourself off as a ****ing sushi expert when you write this:

Quote:
t also includes the occasional soup or warm dish; after the tasting menu, there is the opportunity to order more pieces a la carte, like sea urchin or uni
really? you can order sea urchin OR uni?

I quite like sushi ran just over the golden gate bridge in Sausalito.
and one great thing is if your with a group there is stuff for everyone, great quality fish as well as awesome cooked dishes.

I would be interested in hearing sushi recommendations. I stay in the union square area a lot so I end up at ryoko's quite a bit just out of convenience and it seems fine, but don't mind going further.

Had fries w/ beef cheek+shank gravy & cheese curds (aka poutine) which was A+. Then kronnerburger (served very rare by default), one of the best tasting burgers I've ever had. Had some regular fries to go with that - excellent.

They had a dessert special buttermilk soft serve ice cream w/ strawberries. Holy **** that was great too. Excellent beer selection and cocktails too.

One of the Bon appetite writers named KB as his favorite burger of 2015. They're doing a pop up Saturday in the outer sunset which I'll be attending. Looking forward to it

Pvn: in that area, I'd recommend Sushi Toni and Sakana over ryoko's for casual/reasonably priced sushi. Absolutely nothing wrong w ryoko's though.

Zeno: I'll post thoughts on that list and other places later.

Snipe,

I'm sure I don't need to tell you this, but just in case, marrow for your burger is a must!

Dawg, I ain't had a burger w/o marrow since the 90s. What am I? A peasant?

Jk - good note! hopefully they have it as I doubt it will be a fully featured pop up and that sounds amazing!
