I hate that woman in the grocery store line. You know the one I'm
talking about? I'm always behind her. The fat bitch just stands there
with her cart full of Weight Watchers and Ding Dongs while the cashier
rings everything up, like she doesn't have a care in the world. Waits
'till the cashier's all done to pull out the ****ing coupons she should've
pulled out in the first place. And then she looks all shocked when she
realizes she actually has to pay for everything, like maybe the cashier
will forget to charge her or something. And only then does she
take out her damn checkbook. Oh, she always pays with a check; this bitch
never pays cash, trust me. Or if she does then we all gotta wait around for
her to rummage through her change purse for the exact ****ing change.
Waiting while she gropes around and around trying to get her fat little
fingers on a whole ****load of pennies at the bottom of her purse
that for some god damned reason are hard to get at. All I'm trying to do
is buy a Diet Pepsi and some Animal Crackers, you know? And I'm stuck
behind her. Every ****ing time.

That's what I'm sick of.

oh, and speaking of lines, every time I try to use an ATM I always seem
to be behind some chucklehead who's apparently trying to do a corporate
takeover via the cash machine.

I think they err more on the side of lazy than actually stupid or even ignorant. I find lazy much more easy to believe. It's not great, but it's certainly pervasively human. Not knowing that a junk food diet is worse -- and generally much more expensive -- than a home cooked meal takes some doing in this day and age. Even old school/old country families know that very well; probably better than people do today.

And, the whole time, the miscreant tires to shield you from peeking at whatever huge transaction he's engaged in.

It could be a combination or one of lazy/ignorant/very stupid. Anyway the bad solution both financial and health wise does not only regard them but also there kids.
So there kids will also suffer the financial and health wise loss plus they don`t learn all the important concepts of life with parents like this, and more often than not, these kids will end up the same.
Sad loosers with a number of kids and huge burden on the social system aswell. It is a cirkel of fail, that needs to be broken, and sadly enough evolution has yet to make stupid people incapable of breeding.

Came out a bit harsh but you get the point i think

What is it - or do I not want to know?

well today, i walked up to blockbuster to return some movies (art school confidential, barton fink, bullitt, and one other one that apparently wasn't good enough to remember) and picked up a few more (baby mama (for my wife), the untouchables, and the magnificent seven) and then started my way walking back home.

on the way back i walked past a bus stop where there was one person sitting, so i walked behind the back of it because there was about one foot of space between the person's feet and the edge of the sidewalk, so i just walked around. while i was walking past, the guy (about 6'2" 200) who had a ponytail (haha) turned through the holes in the back and asked me for a couple dollars. normally, i wouldn't even say anything, i would just walk away and not say anything, but this was the third time i had been asked for money in three trips to blockbuster. so, i said, "no i don't have any money, i don't usually even carry cash, i use a check card, but thanks for offering."

he said "i just saw you rent some movies so i know you have some money"

i said " yes, and that's my money."

then i walked away and he got up and started following me. now i'm not usually a confrontational person, and i've been in a few fights before but i really didn't want to deal with this guy, so i walked out of my way and went into a sporting goods store. he followed me into the store while i looked around the baseball bats and knives, then he left. i figured he was gone so i left the store. he was waiting outside when i got there and just kept following me while i walked home.

so, then i got pissed. it wasn't about being worried about a physical altercation with a stranger. granted he was bigger than me, and he was probably on some sort of amphetamines or something, but i always carry my s.o.g. knife with me, so i wasn't exactly scared. i was just pissed.

so i turned around and and

me "excuse me, but what do you want?"

him "i just want some money man."

me "then get a job or something and get your own money, it's not appropriate to just ask other people for money"

him "but i know you have some"

me "that's right i do, but it's my money, not yours and if i gave money to ever ****ing scumbag like you, i wouldn't have any money and everyone else would have money"

him "just give me some money"

me "get the **** away from me"

him (getting agitated) seriously man, just give me a few bucks."

me (knowing that the best way to deal with someone acting aggressively is to act more aggressive than them) "SERIOUSLY GET THE **** AWAY FROM ME AND DON'T EVER ASK ME OR ANYONE ELSE FOR MONEY AGAIN, IT'S VERY RUDE!!!" -in a very loud voice

i probably didn't handle the situation perfectly, but i was pissed. it's hard to get me worked up, but that did it.

also, last week i was leaving ellis island brewery and there was a guy standing right outside the parking garage stopping cars and talking to them before they could pull out onto koval.

so i stopped just in case he really needed something (because for some reason i still believe that people are good). anyway, he starts going into this rhetoric about how he doesn't do drugs, he doesn't drink, blah blah, times are hard, he just needs to feed his family.

before i can say anything, he starts saying, "seriously if i can just get like 15 or 20people to give me $2, i can go to pizza hut or something and get like a couple large pizzas and a few bottles of pepsi for my family and-------------WINDOW ROLLING UP.

seriously, you can't go anywhere without people looking for a handout. handout discussions should be saved for another thread because i think there's a time and a place, and neither of these were it. whatever happened to the old school beggars that just held up a sign and didn't stalk you like jackasses? or ask for money for meals that i can't even always afford? (ok, i can, but that's not the point)

MaximumR, I hate the guys who try to intimidate you into forking over dough. This is one reason I can't stand panhandlers. They're usually just hustlers, with all the negativity and predatory manner that goes with that. They're very often played up to be such nice guys, but they rarely are. Don't fork over the free money and they call you a racist motherf*cker or start stalking you. There was one guy who used to stalk me for blocks to where I parked my car every day. He just wouldn't give up. Finally he backed off, but he was determined to be an as*hole. I think a lot of these guys make everyone's day just a little bit worse every day. That adds up to an enormous amount of negativity over time that they're pumping into the world. That's a pretty good definition of being a blight on society.

right on blarg. unfortunately, they're often successful in intimidating a large number of people and it's just a never ending cycle that we have to put up with.

one time comes to mind when my wife and i were at a gas station on the corner of trop and maryland and i ended up with my hand around some guys throat (he was 6'1" or so and i'm about 5'8") after he asked for a quarter and said i didn't have one (which i didn't) and he followed my wife to her side of the car and when she opened her door, she slammed it shut and wouldn't let her get in.

when i had him up against the wall i can assure you i was much more scared than he was.

unfortunately, not many people like shorties

fish,

i was actually getting really bored with poker and have a large amount of money relative to what it costs for me to live completely happily and comfortably (~2k/month) so i struck out looking for employment that i would both enjoy and learn new things from.

i ended up at the brewery going to interview for a spot as "brewery assistant." unfortunately i got distracted at the bar and drank to much to go get the application and the job went to somebody else.

next time you make it to vegas, look me up, we'll have a time there.

I'd rather cut my face off than have a beard.

Funnily enough, I love mustaches, but I can't grow one.
