I heard that's important to maintain sanity and also remember that you and your wife love eachother. Baby gets all the attention now so I heard parents have to go out of their way to keep things romantic or whatever. We can go out more often but I guess we haven't needed to. We're typically homebodies anyway. We also enjoy putting him in the stroller and pushing him around our neighborhood's retention lake, just to get out of the house once in a while. Or taking short vehicular trips to go get food and whatnot.
Glad to hear this. Also glad to hear you are a few weeks ahead of me, you can keep me updated to what to expect.

Lol. Look at my baby. She's so cute. Even my mom said it (and no, she's not one of those lovie-dovie types), after she warned me that babies aren't really cute after they are born and it takes a few weeks for them to get cuter. Watching the kid cracks me up. So pretty. She's cluster feeding right now, so pretty much my wife is a milk machine. I don't get to play with her much because she's either sleeping or eating. But it's ok. Really nice to be home from the hospital. She's got a bit of jaundice, but the doctors told me this is normal and will keep an eye on her levels.

Car seat picture cracks me up. She was in the car seat strapped in like she was on a rocket to the moon. Never opened an eye the whole time. People were staring at her in the lobby and all making comments of how cute she is. Kind of embarassing really. I left the baby bag in the car so she couldn't even have her outfit her mother picked out for the car ride home, but we put together a ragtag outfit of pink/white/orange. lol.

Came home and found one of the cats sleeping in her basinet. Whole day was just full of laughs.

wil,

Congrats! That is one cute baby. And I say that as someone who thinks babies are hideous.

This was my boy a few weeks ago on when he was 1 month. I was standing behind the recliner while mom held him and was just looking at him, when our dog walked up for no reason and plopped her head on that cushion. The camera was nearby so I grabbed it and went to snap a pic of the 2 of them (he wasn't smiling at all up until this point - just had his eyes closed). And as I'm beginning to focus the camera he just started with this half-smirk with his tongue hanging out a bit so I hurried up and snapped it and got a great pic!

Bump for 2 centimeters dilated and, so far, reasonably unproductive, nearly painless, contractions. Dr said it could still be days... :/

Can I get a rehash of birth weights itt? I'm measuring small and not changing much which lead to a host of tests and ultrasounds today that concluded she's coming in at 6lbs 12 oz +/- 1lb (lolmassivevariance)

....5lbs 12 oz<------>7lbs 12oz 10 days before due date doesn't seem alarmingly tiny to me. Thoughts?

Ours was 2 days early and he was 6lb.9oz. Mom went from 138 to 170 at 5'9". Both her and I were well into the 7lb. range as newborns so that fact +32 pounds of weight gain caused us to be a bit surprised at his slightly low weight at full term. And my brother's son was in the 10 range* and sister's son 9lb. 9oz. so whatever.

*This boy is now 9 years old and is 5'0" 160. His mom is Mexican-American so all my brother feeds him is basically carbs 24-7. We expect him to have type 2 diabetes within a few years, unfortunately. I think he wears a men's size 9 shoe already lol. He's an absolute BEAST.

Thanks! I'm in about the same boat wrt weight gain, I was 6lbs and iirc GW was pretty big.. but the look of concern on the Dr.'s face and the unexpected tests makes me feel a little panicky.

My wife is 110-115 lbs or so (er, was), and got up to about 145-150 lbs. Cora was born on the 6th, and she's down to 120 lbs now.

Corawas born 7 lbs 9 oz. She then dropped a little bit of weight, which was normal, down to like 5lbs 6oz or something, then gained it back.

In general, they were worried our baby was too small, which confused me. Too big, and they have trouble coming out. I dunno. Being a doctor must be tough.

It's really hard to predict a baby's size in utero. I was told to expect a seven pound baby, and Tycho ended up being 9lbs, 6oz. I gained roughly 40 pounds, but I was always measuring right on track.

That's fine.

Although I wouldn't trust it, as you said massive variance.

Just found this thread. I guess I need to post in it since I knocked up my wife again.

Here's a nice little story for you all:
My wife is about a month pregnant with our second child. We go out to play tennis. (Tennis is one of my favorite things in the world but I hardly ever get to play it.) We drop off the 3yr old at our gym's childcare facility (we rarely get time away from the kid these days.) And after 5 straight months of scorching horrible heat the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Sunny and 68 degrees. Just amazing. Couldn't ask for a better day. I was so excited I was literally skipping to the tennis court. (I'm a grown man. I haven't skipped since elementary school.)

I hit a ball to her and she puts it in the net. I hit another ball and she puts it in the net. Then she starts to cry. Are you okay? "I'm just sad. I can't get the ball over the net." Aw, F***! We pick up our gear and she waits in the car while I go pick up the little one. Only 8 months left.

wil, that's a pretty big weight drop for the baby, that's like 29% of her weight. They told us it's normal to see weight drop at first but anything more than 10% they start paying attention to. I think our boy lost about 8% weight then it started rising.

lol. I typed 5 lbs. I meant 7 lbs. The baby dropped 2 -3 ounces, not 2.5 lbs. Sorry, it was before my morning coffee.

Best of luck, Kristy! It sounds like you're handling all of this really well.

Lily: born 7:04 pm on Aug. 18th!

Contractions didn't want to start so they eventually started Pitocin..from that point it was a three hour labour. I delivered on the first push.

She was born 6lbs 2oz and perfectly healthy, though the pediatrician suspects that my due date was a little off and that she was more than 8 days early. I had a slightly worse time of it...I asked to get up and go to the washroom about an hour after delivery felt like something was wrong when I got to the toilet. I got back to bed and called the nurse and then proceeded to hemorrhage for about an hour and a half. They said that I lost about 1/4-1/3 of my blood volume...which I barely remember, but my husband says that it was something out of a horror show.

Its funny how you can read book after book on the subject of pregnancy and not even know that something like that is not only a possibility, but the leading cause of maternal death.

Make sure your wives check for and report any heavy bleeding immediately!

I'm definitely on the mend but all the IVs and meds have delayed my milk coming in which has led to a drop in Lily's birth weight from 6lbs 2oz to 5lbs 12oz as of yesterday morning...I want to supplement with formula to stop the decrease, but the Breast-is-Best cronies at the hospital seem to think I should be waiting it out...so for now I've got the tiniest, healthy baby I've ever seen.

Aww she's beautiful and has a beautiful name.

You meant October right? That's fine you have a combined hormonal/meds get out of jail free card.

Congratulations to both you and papa!

Babies can lose up to 10% of their birth weight and you don't have to worry.

Oops! You're right...October 18th. August 18th is the wedding anniversary. If someone with appropriate mod-powers wants to change that'd be much appreciated!

I've heard 7% is where they start to get concerned...but I'm a worrier. She's just so tiny!

Congratulations! Glad to hear you survived that blood loss thing...jeez.

Definitely try to stick with the booby if you can. Wife's been breastfeeding for 2 months now and the more I learn about it the more amazing a process it is. How the hell do tits produce milk and antibiotics??? And for free.

Good luck

Hhaah so cute. My baby had a hat just like that. In fact, she was in the same kind of basinet. In fact... wtf lol everything seems eerily familiar.

Congrats. Can't believe you delivered right away. My wife pushed for 3 hours and then we had a c-section. The blood looked like a horror show on my end too, so trust me I know how you feel.

The first 10 days for us were constant worrying and running back and forth to check on her. Don't worry, it gets better. The baby gets stronger as the days go on. Just remember, always pick them up with 2 hands, dominant hand around the waist right above the butt for control, and the other hand right behind their neck/bottom of head. They wiggle sometimes, so you don't ever want to risk dropping them. After day 2 you'll become a pro at picking them right up.

We breast-feed, and we learned within the first week that she wasn't getting enough calories because she wasn't gaining weight. So, we breast-feed every 3 hours for 2-3 ounces then offer 2 ounces of formula. Her weight went right up. General recommendation is 20 minutes or so of feeding, but I'm sure your doctor will give you all that info. It's confusing and a bit stressful, to be honest, just wanted to tell you what we went through because I prefer breast-feeding but once I realized Cora wasn't getting enough calories was all for supplementing with formula.

Good luck Kristy!
