pongo- I'm sure I've said my spiel here often enough, and I don't want to be too much of a drag on the thread by posting stuff like this, but risks of fetal mortality go up pretty sharply late in a pregnancy (see e.g. Fig. 7 in the most recent National Vital Statistics report). Risk factors are often things like heart rate decelerations that you can only see with continuous fetal monitoring over an extended period of time. Research shows that kick counting is actually fairly effective in monitoring things, so you might want to look into it if you're going to stick with midwives/42 weeks.

Good luck!

Does a baby measuring bigger than it's due date give it a greater chance of arriving sooner? My gfs last appt she was 22 weeks and he was measuring at 24 weeks.

We're definitely not doing anything unsafe. He had no dipping of heart rate during our NST yesterday, and he is still SUPER active. My midwife also said that it feels like my amniotic fluid levels are still really high. Ultrasound on Monday will confirm everything is still looking healthy. Of course, the minute anything starts to look off at all we will try to figure out what we need to do to ensure the best outcomes for everyone. I'm not going to crazy hippie it until the very end if it isn't safe or logical.

However, with the average first-time pregnancy, labor starts at 41 weeks, 3 days (10 days "late"), which for me wouldn't even be until tomorrow, I'm not going to worry until I have a god reason to.

Ultrasound measurements of fetal size are notoriously inaccurate, and become less accurate the later in pregnancy you go. Unless you're really unsure of the date of conception, it doesn't likely mean anything.

Confirming that first pregnancies often take longer than 40 weeks. My wife is due in September. IMO she looks ready to pop now. Gonna be a long 2 months.

during both pregnancies we've thought we were 2 weeks further along than what we were. we would figure out the due date using the chart or whatever they tell you to use, based on your last missed period.

then when we go in for the first ultrasound they changed it both times because the baby was measuring small. i'll never understand how/why they change it, because if that was the case the due date, in theory, should be changed every new ultrasound based on size.

good luck tho, hopefully today is the day for u and kyleb.

This is what I did today:

9lbs, 2oz, 23 inches long, his head is 14 3/4 inches around. Big boy! Totally drug free vaginal delivery with our midwife at the birth center, everyone performed beautifully.

My son was 10lbs 2oz and was 2 weeks late, was measuring big the whole time. It doesn't mean much.
